Senior Research Assistant, Department of SurgeryIntroductionAga Khan University was established in 1983 as an international university with an objective to promote human welfare in general, and the welfare of the people in the countries in which it operates, by disseminating knowledge and providing instruction, training, research and service in the health sciences, education and such other branches of learning as the University may determine.In Department of Surgery dedicated Office of Academia and Research in Surgery (OARS) has been established in 2016. This office provides support in developing research design and measurement, writing and revising grant applications, assisting in statistical data analysis, editing manuscripts, recruiting research officers and monitoring their activities, allocating and monitoring utilization of department fund for research activities, organizing symposia, selecting and inviting foreign speakers organizing and conducting conferences and workshops and other CME events.Brain tumors are responsible for disproportionally high morbidity and mortality due to the aggressive biological behavior of these tumors and the vulnerable location they are native to.In addition to differences in genetic profiles across patients, heterogeneity within the tumors adds another layer of complexity, resulting in the failure of the current one-size-fits-all regimens. We propose developing a comprehensive and automated pipeline - ?Virtual Biopsy for Classification, Outcome prediction and Treatment planning of Brain tumors (ViBCOT)? with the help of machine learning that will combine tumor imaging with gene expression signatures to develop models that will allow non-invasive diagnosis, stratification, and subtyping of tumors as well as predicting short- and long-term survival in these patients. A large training dataset, including significant data representative of tumor epidemiology in our population, will be used to develop robust segmentation and predictive models through the application of deep learning algorithms.Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Senior Research Assistant in Department of Surgery.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to:

• collect, manage and analyse data for brain tumor research projects including clinical data, molecular data and MRI brain scans
• extract, anonymise and annote of MRI scans
• conduct literature search and write manuscript for original articles, reports and reviews
• search and manage information on grant opportunities
• prepare grant proposals for internal and extramural funding bodies
• complete grant checklists and ensure approvals from relevant departments
• complete the formalities for collaboration and transfer of data with external investigators for different projects
• arrange meetings within group and with external collaborators/parties
• prepare presentations for conferences, research group meetings and similar events.

• an MBBS/BE in biomedical/BS or MS (software engineering/AI/ Data science) from an HEC recognised or reputable foreign university/institution
• at least six months of experience in research work involving handling of datasets and manuscript writing
• basic level of understanding in neuroanatomy
• competency in MS office and SPSS. competency in any image analysis software will be considered advantageous
• effective presentation skills, problem-solving and teamwork required.
