Job Description

IntroductionThe Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has more than fifteen community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.The CHAMPS network monitors the causes of under-5 mortality and stillbirths at sites in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The study has two components (i) Identify, enumerate all under-5 deaths and stillbirths in the catchment area and Obtain Minimally Invasive Tissue Sample (ii) Obtain verbal autopsies and available maternal and infant clinical data on all eligible notified under-5 deaths and stillbirths in the site?s catchment area. The grant is funded through Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Yale University.ÿResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to supervise project activities related to field and data management to ensure quality control, while maintaining good working relationship with staff, community and various stakeholders involved. Specific responsibilities include to:

• ensure proper risks, action items, and decisions, using appropriate tools
• proven mixed methods research skills
• formulating and conducting scientific experiments, performing data collection, and analyzing and evaluating test and research result
• overall supervision of field office to ensure proper compliance of policies and smooth operations to facilitate commencement of project activities
• supervise and monitor timely visits of participants? for follow ups
• responding to research questions, troubleshooting problems, developing and writing advanced experimental protocols, and monitoring ongoing projects, and proposing and implementing changes
• provide training to the study staff as per the protocols and guidelines of study
• ensure the completeness, proper filings, and archiving of the CRFs
• develop and implement QA QC plan with documentation and reporting
• contributing to and writing research findings for publications, papers, presentations, grants, and other documents
• preparation and compilation of study progress report
• prepare monthly project reports in collaboration with Data Manager
• present the study results as per the requirement
• familiar with a variety of the fields concepts, practices, and procedures
• to develop high quality research proposals for funding agency; conduct research and contribute in publications

• a Master?s degree in Scienceÿor Public Health or equivalent qualification
• at least fiveÿyears of overallÿexperience
• must have 2 years of research related experience
• knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods
• computer literacy and strong mathematical, analytical, and research skills
• excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
• willing to travel and work in the communities/ rural field sites
• integrity and strong research ethics
• excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• strong computer skills
