Job Description

Entity:Aga Khan UniversityDepartment:Centre for Regenerative MedicineLocation:Karachi, Pakistan.Introduction:The Aga Khan University - Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AKU-CRM) is inviting applications from outstanding and ambitious candidates for the position of Post-Doctoral Fellows under the HEC/World Bank funded Grand Challenge Fund (GCF) project (Ref No. 20-GCF-543/RGM/R&D/HEC/2020: titled ?Developing ?druggable?? CRISPR/Cas9 for treating ?-thalassemia and sickle cell anemia?).This project aims to develop druggable cell-based gene editing therapies that would be applicable to both ?-thalassemia and sickle cell anemia. It will develop an efficient system to directly inject a biologically active gene editing CRISPR/Cas9 complex to repair the mutated gene within the body. The project will also work on restarting the production of fetal hemoglobin in patients suffering from ?-thalassemia and sickle cell anemia, using the same gene editing approach.Job Role / Responsibilities:You will be responsible to:

  • conduct wet lab supervised research related to the project
  • conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inventory of consumables/reagents required for the team
  • Keep record of procurements, follow-ups, receipts of supplies etc
  • Participate in weekly project meetings, journal clubs, research in progress meetings, and delivering presentations as directed by the assigned faculty
  • .Assist with writing of manuscripts, annual reports, and others.
Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:You should have:
  • a Masters degree in the field of Biological Science or a relevant field. candidates with an MBBS, BDS or DVM with lab-based research experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum 1-2 years? experience of wet laboratory work in one of the following areas:
    • Stem cells including iPSCs and HSCs
    • Gene editing in stem cells
    • Hematopoiesis
    • Cytogenetics and imaging
    • Gene and molecular therapy
    • Animal models
  • strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks assigned by the faculty
  • essential command of Microsoft office
  • use and application of statistical and imaging software would be an advantage
  • excellent communication skills including fluency in English speaking and writing.
