Job Description

IntroductionThe Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.Platform Project - Experimental Medicine Platform (EMP) is a multicountry study funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Along with Pakistan(AKU), other countries are Bangladesh (ICDDRB), Zambia (Tropgan), and Senegal (Institut Pasteur de Dakar). This grant aims to harmonize intervention protocol for new probiotics-based medicines for the management of malnutrition in pregnant women and women of reproductive age. The grant of over one million USD is for one year, and it focuses mainly on harmonization of protocol and data and lab samples collection for studying changes in the gut Microbiome.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to supervise and monitor the research activities including data collection as well as maintain necessary records, create and sustain liaison with the relevant stakeholders for the smooth implementation of all necessary activities of the project. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • carryout ultrasound procedure of female patients with Obs and Gynae issues at field sites
  • visit households of enrolled patients with handheld ultrasound device
  • ensure the completeness, proper entry and archiving of the study forms and / or questionnaires
  • to formulate and carry out plans and policies for promotion of social and behavioral science research on the health related issue
  • ensure the double entry is done for data entry in collaboration with the Data Management staff
  • prepare and present fortnightly and monthly project reports and presentations
  • actively work with administration Outreach and Research to maintain discipline and compliance with all institutional and department policies and procedures
  • organize, implement, monitor and evaluate the various activities of social research projects
  • perform any other task assigned by the supervisor
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a minimum of M.B.B.S and at least six months of Ultrasound completion course diploma/ certificate
  • At least two years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent and active team player
  • Good computer skills
  • Technical knowledge of ultrasound equipment and procedures
  • Data collection, analysis and interpretation in terms of report writing and biostatics
