Job Description

IntroductionThe Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.The CHAMPS network monitors the causes of under-5 mortality and stillbirths at sites in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The study has two components (i) Identify, enumerate all under-5 deaths and stillbirths in the catchment area and Obtain Minimally Invasive Tissue Sample (ii) Obtain verbal autopsies and available maternal and infant clinical data on all eligible notified under-5 deaths and stillbirths in the site?s catchment area. The grant is funded through Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Yale University.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to supervise and monitor the research activities including data collection as well as maintain necessary records, create and sustain liaison with the relevant stakeholders for the smooth implementation of all necessary activities of the project. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • monitoring the data collection process in the field, evaluating and ensuring the accuracy of the data
  • writing a weekly report
  • coordinating with the project supervisors to discuss field related activities
  • provide training to the staff as per the protocols and guidelines of study
  • oversee the project, simultaneously, ensuring smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research related activities
  • ensure all research related auditable materials are always up to date
  • conducting In depth interviews and FGDs
  • monitoring all components of the project in the field, evaluating, and ensuring the accuracy of the data
  • translation and transcription of data from Urdu to English
RequirementsYou should have:
  • at least a Bachelor? s degree in Social science or equivalent. Masters will be preferred.
  • one ? two years of relevant work experience˙
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • team player˙
  • good writing skills˙
  • basic Knowledge of ˙survey and other research designs
  • data collection, analysis and interpretation in terms of report writing and biostatics
  • strong interpersonal skills and communication
  • integrity and strong research ethics
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • comfort with working in challenging field-based settings
  • proven mixed methods research skills
  • strong people management skills, particularly in challenging field environment
  • this is a contractual position based in Karachi.
