Job Description

IntroductionFounded in 1983, the Aga Khan University (AKU) has 13 teaching sites in 6 countries and 3 continents, all established with the intention of bringing international standards of excellence to the developing world in the domains of teaching, research, and service. AKU?s mission is to positively impact the quality of life in developing countries by providing access to health services and education. Its services are geared towards the empowerment of underprivileged communities by encouraging local talent towards academic excellence and social change.The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to supervise and monitor the research activities including data collection as well as maintain necessary records, create and sustain liaison with the relevant stakeholders for the smooth implementation of all necessary activities of the project. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • develop research instruments for new project according to their objectives
  • familiarity with clinical data
  • approach patients/families for consent and taking consent and enrolling patients
  • independently able to collect data in PICU environment
  • review and screen the hospital data and lab reports to enroll the suspected patients as per the medical records
  • ensure proper collection of specimen as per the provided guidelines
  • sample handling for transfer to laboratory in coordination with lab team
  • conduct Research Lab test as instructed by the Principal Investigator and / or Research Supervisor
  • maintain and safeguard equipment in the Research Lab and stay abreast of techniques and methodologies
  • modify existing methods of tests to make them more efficient
  • follow and ensure field implementation of project related SOPs / guidelines as defined in the research project
  • ensure proper implementation of intervention
  • assist supervisors in carrying out day to day work
  • perform all other duties assigned to him time-to-time by the supervisor.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a Master?s degree, preferably in Sociology, Psychology or equivalent
  • at least one year of relevant experience
  • good interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
  • proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office
  • ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
  • ability to work effectively in teams and resilience to cope-up with work pressure
  • good report writing skills and willingness to work in the community settings and travel to field sites.
