Job Description

IntroductionAga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistans first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research, and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region.The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.In this project, we will be collecting biopsy samples of children being enrolled at the department of gastroenterology, Aga Khan University. These biopsy samples will be used to isolate stem cells followed by enteroids culture and their co-culture with other microbes.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to supervise and monitor the research activities including data collection as well as maintain necessary records, create and sustain liaison with the relevant stakeholders for the smooth implementation of all necessary activities of the project. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • develop research instruments for new project according to their objectives
  • ensure validity of data collected from the field
  • independently conduct interviews and prepare detailed notes on interviews
  • review and screen the hospital data and lab reports to enroll the suspected patients as per the medical records
  • ensure proper collection of specimen as per the provided guidelines
  • assist senior staff and supervisor in sample processing, and other lab related work
  • raise wider community awareness on Child Health related issues based on prepared project activity guidelines
  • follow and ensure field implementation of project related SOPs / guidelines as defined in the research project
  • to ensure proper implementation of intervention
  • to assist supervisors in carrying out day to day work on the field
  • to perform all other duties assigned time-to-time by the supervisor.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a Bachelor/M.Phil in Science in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Medicine, Pharmacy or any other relevant degree
  • one ? two years of experience in laboratory sciences, sample collection and patient data management
  • good understanding of patient recruitments, biological sample collection and laboratory procedures
  • a command on research paper, proposal and manuscript writing.
  • the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
  • good communication and interpersonal skills
  • resilience and ability to cope with work pressure
  • willingness to work in the field sites
  • good Computer and Report Writing Skills.
