Librarian, Faculty of Health Sciences LibraryEntity: Aga Khan UniversityLocation: KarachiIntroduction to the Aga Khan University:The Aga Khan University is a private, international university committed to international standards of excellence in teaching, research and service. It has a network of six hospitals providing high quality health care. The main hospital at Stadium Road Karachi serves as the principal site for clinical training for AKU?s Medical College and School of Nursing & Midwifery. AKU?s Faculty of Health Science (FHS) in Karachi enables aspiring medical professionals to deliver quality patient care, advance healthcare policy and make a difference in the communities it serves. The FHS Library supports the teaching, learning and research programmes of the University by selecting, acquiring and organizing relevant and up-to-date information resources and ensuring efficient and effective dissemination to all library users. It provides access to comprehensive and multi-disciplinary information resources in print and digital formats. This access is provided through innovative services and state-of-the-art systems. The library is part of WHO EMRO libraries network and is actively involved in various projectsJob Role / Responsibilities:You will be responsible for assisting the Senior Librarian in the overall management of the library and in the implementation of the FHS library?s policies and procedures. Providing research support to students, faculty, researchers, and residents, and contributing to the library?s reference services.You will be responsible to:

  • supervise the data population of eCommons, AKU Institutional Repository, Symphony ILMS, and other library systems and tools for FHS Library Karachi
  • plan, implement market and evaluate the library?s information literacy programs on campus, AKU Outreach Hospitals, and selected designated areas
  • work collegially with faculty to integrate information competencies into the curriculum by integrating resource-based learning experiences
  • assist the Senior Librarian, FHS in running specific aspects of the library services
  • ensure the implementation of library policies and procedures as laid down in the library regulation document
  • work for the development of library staff by providing training and assigning tasks in important subjects
  • assist the Senior Librarian in developing linkage with other national libraries
  • serve as the contact person and faculty liaison for all general inquiries for library instruction
  • provide expert advice on literature search to users
  • develop and implement new and innovative technology in all library services
  • develop, coordinate, and implement workshops and instructional opportunities for the University community
  • develop and maintain library usage statistics, and preparation of reports for the Senior Management
  • provide support to other AKU libraries in Pakistan when required.
Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:You should have:
  • Masters in Library & Information Science or equivalent degree from HEC recognized institution. M. Phil will be preferred
  • Ten years? experience in a managerial/supervisory position in an academic / healthcare setting
  • Excellent practical knowledge of academic libraries? information resources and databases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of conducting information literacy sessions.
  • Practical knowledge of international bibliographic standards including MARC, Dublin Core, RDA, LC, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of Institutional Repository?s management and workflows.
  • Practical knowledge and management of researchers? profiling platforms.
  • Working knowledge of web-based content management systems, including Microsoft SharePoint and SpringShare?s LibGuides.
  • Expertise in data management tools, Excel, Power BI, etc.
  • Practical experience in the development and delivery of information literacy programs.
  • Experience supervising library professionals and paraprofessional staff.
  • Knowledge of health science databases and MESH will be an added advantage.
