Job Description

Position: Assistant Librarian ? Its teaching hospital, the Aga Khan University Hospital has been accredited by the prestigious Joint Commission International for achieving the highest international healthcare standards.AKU has launched the department of Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) that will develop young people to become future leaders through a transformative education that is endlessly challenging, stimulating and mind-opening. The FAS library will serve as a hub of learning and research activities at 12th floor of the University Centre at Stadium Road Campus in Karachi.Job Role / Responsibilities: You will be responsible for:

  • assisting in getting subscription of online books, journals, and databases
  • assisting in provision of uninterrupted access to library electronic resources
  • supporting in reference services including answer day to day queries to users in-person and through online libChat
  • providing literature search assistance using library databases
  • creating library guides on different topics and subject to facilitate students
  • uploading FAS faculty?s scholarly work to AKU eCommons, Institutional Repository
  • cataloguing and classification of newly arrived library material.
Requirements:You should have:
  • a Masters degree in Library Science or equivalent with at least two ? five years? experience of working in a university library or higher education institute
  • strong knowledge of arts, social sciences & humanities literature
  • experience in negotiations with booksellers and publishers
  • demonstrated knowledge of AACR2, RDA, LC
  • working knowledge of integrated library management system, metadata standards, and best practices such as MARC21 & Dublin Core
  • good supervisory skills
  • ability to work independently and collegially
  • strong customer service attitude, as well as a positive, proactive approach to problem-solving
