Job Description

1.1 Responsible for the rendering of high-quality nursing care to patients within the Nursing unit. Such nursing care is an integral part of the total patient care plan, as directed by members of the medical staff, pursuant to the center’s overall nursing philosophy, goals, and objectives and in keeping with the generally accepted principles of professional nursing.1.2 Responsible for the Nursing Units clinical care and management for the hours of shift duty. Assists the Nurse In-charge with the overall clinical, administrative, and educational aspects of the nursing care delivery to patients of an assigned nursing unit.2. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY / JOB DUTIES:2.1 Provides and ensures that the minimum standards of care and performance of nursing procedures/tasks related to the job position are delivered by all members of the unit nursing team.2.2 Performs a variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a range of equipment, supplies, medication, and other modalities in carrying out specific medical orders from the administration of medications, the performance of specific treatments, monitoring techniques, and other diagnostic, therapeutic, and supportive measures.2.3 Initiates and performs a range of nursing measures based on patient needs related to physical and mental comfort, positioning and mobilization, nutrition and hydration, bowel and bladder elimination, care of skin and wounds, and support of respiration, hygiene, communication, and other physical and mental bodily functions2.4 Coordinates with the In-service and Quality Management Coordinator providing an ongoing review of practices and procedures and making recommendations. Provides clinical guidance, direction, and coordination of activities for junior nursing and auxiliary/ancillary personnel within the area and particularly for nursing care situations that are more complex and less common within the area.2.5 Provides a safe, therapeutic, personalized physical and psychosocial environment for patient care.2.6 In conjunction with the medical staff and Head Nurse plans and provides patient/family teaching during daily care relative to the understanding of the illness and treatments.2.7 Reports and documents significant information through the established oral and written processes.2.8 Ensures unit staff demonstrates their awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences and expectations of patients, relatives, and visitors.2.9 Assists the Nurse In-charge and is delegated for all administrative/management of the assigned unit including:2.9.1 Coordinates and monitors activities of staff and all services to patients.2.9.2 Anticipates, identifies potential/actual problems, and resolution of problems, recommending changes to policy as necessary.2.9.3 Ensures effective communication within the unit/department between staff/patients/significant others and applied health care personnel.2.9.4 Reports all unusual occurrences/problems/resolutions to the Head Nurse.2.9.5 Ensures optimal staff safety, welfare, and development: participating in ongoing counseling and informal evaluation and appraisal procedures, promoting dynamic and quality staff relationships.2.9.6 Ensures the consistent/accurate preparation of nursing records. 2.9.7 Actively involved with the supervision and maintenance of the nursing computerized functions. Assists in identifying difficulties and suggesting improvements to the operation of the IT system.2.9.8 Ensures the assigned nursing unit is maintained and operated in a clean, tidy, and organized manner.2.9.9 Communicates with patients, relatives, visitors, medical, & non-medical staff in a polite, sensitive, and confidential manner.2.9.10 Ensures unit compliance to inter-departmental policies and procedures.2.9.11 Ensures nursing staff is fully conversant with all equipment and operational procedures relevant to said equipment use by the unit in the provision of patient nursing services.2.9.12 Supervises, controls, and is responsible for the following:2.9.12.1 Inventory and security of all equipment and the coordination with the Bio-medical Engineer for its proper and timely maintenance. 2.9.12.2 Inventory management and charging of medical consumable items using the computer system of EED Clinic. 2.9.12.3 Storage and administration of medications and drugs, including narcotics.2.10 Oversees the orientation of newly assigned unit staff.2.11 Assists with the maintenance of the nursing philosophies pertinent to the assigned unit.2.12 Actively involved with preparing, setting, implementing, monitoring, reviewing, and reporting on the assigned units' goals and objectives.2.13 Complies with the general policies and procedures for all personnel aspects as established by the general wide PPG manuals.2.14 Attends consultant unit rounds as Head Nurse designate.2.15 Serves as a member for all unit-based team meetings and completes assignments as requested.2.16 Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills, and ability.
