Job Description

Job PurposeLead, direct and control the activities of the HSE Department and Operations business? units to achieve short, medium and long term operational risk reduction and health and? safety objectives. To lead, control and direct operations to ensure overall physical risk? exposure is mitigated and assist business units where necessary. To lead and promote? environmental best practice within the organisation. To advise on Health & Safety? Legislation & monitor ALJ Safety Coordinators. To ensure ALJ Motors safety issues? are resolved within agreed timelines in conjunction with the operational business units? and Director ESSR.Responsibilities

  • Identify relevant occupational safety, health & environmental standards
  • Responsible to develop, implement and maintain operational risk reduction strategies across? the company?s property portfolio.
  • Responsible to establish and implement Health and Safety policies and procedures across the? organisation and monitor the performance based on agreed timelines.?
  • Guide the activities of the HSE team to achieve short, medium and long term operational HSE? & environmental risk reduction.
  • Responsible for new and existing projects to review and ensure compliance with Health &? Safety & Environmental best practice both at ALJ Motors facilities and with all relevant? stakeholders
  • Responsible to establish and implement risk reduction strategies across the organisation to? both reduce operating cost whilst improving risk reduction performance through Service Level? Agreements and other management tools within agreed timelines.
  • To Monitor & Collate Self- assessment checklists from ALJR Safety Coordinators and report? upon completion and outstanding issues to the Hazard Committee when required.
  • Responsible to ensure Legal compliance to Local Health, Safety, Security and Environmental? Legislation.
  • Responsible for managing and developing the HSE team to improve both personal and? operating skills and developing succession within the Department.
  • Responsible to initiate ISO 14001 Environmental best practice and ISO 45001 (occupational? safety) throughout ALJ Motors facilities
  • Undertake ad hoc HSE & Environmental inspections as directed.
  • Determine HSE & Environmental best practice.
Key Activities 1. Develop occupational and environmental safety & health, policies and procedures in line with? best practices and local legislations. Ensure 100% implementation of risk mitigation to life? threatening issues within 36 hrs of the risk / issue being identified. Where this cannot be? achieved to agree and extension in time with Director ESSR. Ensure all other hazards are? mitigated within agreed timeframe with facility operations, based on risk assessment reports? Where this cannot be achieved, to obtain written agreement from ESSR Director for extension? in time and escalation to senior operational management. All aging issues exceeding agreed? timelines will be escalated to the Hazard Committee.2. Develop annual risk reduction activities for HSE across the organisation based on physical site? inspections and risk assessment.3. Assist to establish departmental & external operational targets and Key Performance Indicators? (KPI?s) to achieve overall risk reduction and improve operational efficiencies.4. Develop business procedures in line with Group Policy and internal Audit recommendations.5. Maintain high levels of communication and transparency with external Insurance companies to? assist in Risk Reduction and subsequent premium reduction.6. Produce and circulate HSE management reports clearly identifying departmental and? operational KPI?s and areas of risk.?7. Conduct physical inspections of the company?s facilities in order to determine risk exposure and? formulate and agree subsequent action plans to mitigate highlighted levels of risk.8. Review facility project designs in conjunction with Insurance companies and external? consultants to ensure health, safety and environmental legislation, policy and best practice is? adhered to prior to building or renovation.
