Foremost Accountability:Complex, analytical, interpretive microscopic work; screening with ensuing diagnostic interpretation of cytopathologic cases at the primary levelGeneral Accountabilities:Actively participates in the technical / cytoprepratory work of the sectionLiaises with Technologist II and Operations Manager on:cytopreparation, staining, testing, resulting and trouble-shooting as necessaryinventory management of reagents and consumablesimplementation and/or validation procedures of new instruments as assignedRecords, reports and communicates quality control outcomes; and participates in rectifying areas of concern as deemed necessaryMaintains cooperation between the section and other pathology disciplines and personnelTakes responsibility for the maintenance and safe use of instruments and supplies in the sectionEnsures the provision of a high quality, cost-effective service with utmost emphasis on patient care and managementActively participates in the overall development of diagnostic processes and platformsScreening-Specific Accountabilities:Maintains professional membership, certification and licensure as deemed necessary, and Qatar (QCHP) license to practiceMaintains adequate knowledge of cytopathology standards of practice, and current reporting nomenclatureMaintains adequate knowledge of relevant cytomorphologic criteria and templatesPerforms analytical screening of cytologic cases in accordance with established protocol, abiding by workload regulations pertaining to screening as stipulated through CAP/ISO-15189Performs quality control and assurance procedures in all aspects of the servicePerforms mandatory proficiency testing surveys; maintaining acceptable proficiency outcomesBecomes proficient in the use of Cerner LIS for the tracking and verification of cytology casesBecomes proficient in the use of the Hologic T5000 processor, and ThinPrep Imaging System (TIS), achieving appropriate proficiencyCarries out corrective procedures as advised when quality control outcomes are suboptimalEnsures Institutional, Departmental, and Sectional policies and procedures are adhered toParticipates in the training (theoretical and practical) of technical staff in methodologies, principles and procedures as assignedParticipates in research and development as assignedComplies with all laboratory health and safety procedures and policies, including cultural, health and safety issues as deemed appropriate.
