A foreman may work under the direction of a general contractor, business owner or general manager to identify the various phases of a job. He may be involved in recruiting, hiring and training the work crews necessary to successfully complete projects. The foreman assigns duties and is responsible for monitoring the progress of a project and keeping it on track from a time and budgetary standpoint. He must ensure workers are qualified and knowledgeable about their roles and make assignments according to skill sets. The person in this position may also issue reports and progress updates and make decisions related to supplier and vendor relationships. A foreman also ensures safe working conditions and compliance with all safe operating procedures specific to the industry
