Job Description

  1. Cable Jointing and Termination:
  • Install, splice, and terminate high-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) cables.
  • Perform jointing tasks for various types of cables such as XLPE, PILC, and EPR.
  • Ensure that all connections and terminations are made correctly, following specifications and electrical standards.
  • Use appropriate tools and equipment for jointing, including heat shrink, cold shrink, and resin-based jointing kits.
  1. Cable Installation:
  • Assist in the installation of underground and overhead cable systems.
  • Install cables in trenches, ducts, or overhead lines, ensuring proper alignment and protection.
  • Prepare cables for jointing by stripping insulation, cleaning conductors, and applying protective measures.
  1. Testing and Fault Finding:
  • Conduct tests on cables and joints to ensure they meet quality and safety standards using insulation resistance testers, voltage detectors, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Identify and repair faults in electrical cables and joints, minimizing downtime and restoring power as quickly as possible.
  • Perform continuity and insulation resistance tests before and after jointing.
  1. Health and Safety Compliance:
  • Follow all health and safety regulations, ensuring the worksite is safe and hazards are minimized.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as insulated gloves, helmets, and safety boots.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed during high-voltage operations, including the use of insulated tools and equipment.
  • Conduct risk assessments before starting any task, identifying potential hazards and mitigating risks.
  1. Maintenance and Repair:
  • Perform routine maintenance of existing cable infrastructure to extend the lifespan of underground and overhead cable systems.
  • Repair damaged cables due to wear, electrical faults, or external factors (e.g., construction, weather conditions).
  • Ensure that all repairs are completed to industry standards and that power disruption is minimized.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of jointing and termination activities, including details of materials used and work completed.
  • Provide reports on the condition of cables and joints, including any potential risks or areas requiring attention.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and materials, ensuring that all necessary supplies are available for upcoming jobs.
  1. Coordination with Teams:
  • Work with electrical engineers, technicians, and other team members to ensure that all projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with site managers and supervisors to ensure that jointing tasks are integrated smoothly into the overall project plan.
  • Liaise with utility companies and local authorities when working on public infrastructure.
