A total of four lab sections are scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with meeting times of 2:00-3:20pm and 3:30-4:50pm. The four labs must be taught by a single adjunct professor.Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.To apply for these positions, please submit the following material: * Cover letter* Curriculum vitae or resume* Names and contact information for two professional referencesCourse Description.The PSY 384 lecture and lab combination covers historical and contemporary theories of learning and behavioral change from a behaviorist perspective. Each will focus on animal studies covering non-associative learning as well as classical and operant conditioning paradigms. This includes advanced topics such as extinction and discrimination, as well as applications to animal training and the human experience. A majority of the content will be concerned with environmental influences on behavior and focus on understanding the mechanisms of learning through investigation of empirical studies. This course fulfills a requirement for both the psychology and animal behavior majors and is an elective for the neuroscience major. The lab accompanies the lecture section and provides hands on activities to enhance the learning of this class content. Typically, this is accomplished using rats in available operant chambers, which the department has available, although this is at the discretion of the instructor. The adjunct assistant teaching professor will be responsible for helping design the lab activities, running all aspects of the lab, including set up, supervising the students, clean up, and grading lab assignments (and delivering these grades to the instructor of the lecture section). Given the integrated nature of the lecture and lab, it is expected that the lecture and lab professors will work together to deliver a coherent experience to students. Training on the use of the operant chambers can be provided. Experience with animal-based learning techniques and college teaching experience is preferred.
