Working Title PH Nurse Manager Sr (ALX 02288) Role Title Rn III/Nurse Prct II - 49114 Location Alexandria - 510 Alexandria Health Department seeks a dynamic, proactive inspirational leader to manage its comprehensive public health nursing program and be a vital part of the departmental leadership team. The department?s preventive clinic services and programs are essential elements of the City of Alexandria?s safety net system and include: Nutrition/Women, Infants, and Children (WIC ) Program, Immunization Clinic, Family Planning, Reproductive and Sexual Health Clinics, HIV /AIDS services, Case Management/Baby Care, Tuberculosis Program, and Teen Wellness Center Program. Responsibilities include: supervising public health nurse supervisors; developing and managing changes to ensure continuous improvement in efficiency and effectiveness of services; identifying and pursuing external resources; developing resource allocation schemes; generating and managing program budgets; cultivating private and public partnerships; designing and implementing staff development plans; and providing general input into overall departmental operations and policies. The position recruits staff, procures and administers grants, participates in community needs assessments, recommends resource allocations, and assures quality of services provided. Requires Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse by state code. Alexandria Health Department (AHD ) is one of 35 health districts in Virginia. Minimum Qualifications Considerable knowledge and experience in the application of public health nursing principles. Demonstrated nursing management, supervisory, and leadership skills, including conflict management and team building. Knowledge of, and experience in, providing nursing leadership. Experience in successfully managing and overseeing programs, including priority setting, project management and budget and financial management. Ability to analyze and interpret data and experience in development of community health assessments, strategic planning and improvement plans. Ability to build and develop strategic relationships and partnerships with individuals and entities within and outside of the jurisdiction. Ability to relate well to clients from varied backgrounds, cultures and different situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Workspace apps. Bachelor of Science in Nursing and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current Registered Nurse licensure in Virginia; current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED ). Possess and maintain a current driver?s license and ability to provide own transportation, with adherence to VDH?s driver safety policy. Preferred Qualifications Master?s degree or Doctorate degree in related field (e.g., Public Health, Nursing, Health Administration). Considerable experience in a supervisory nursing position in a Public Health setting. Experience in grant writing and procurement. Experieince in public health emergency response. Experience in training and organizational development. Experience in mangaging with multiple work site locations. Experience in supervising in a hybrid work location environment. Experience in preparing public health communications, technical and non-technical reports, briefings, testimonies, and other written material, for dissemination to media groups and the community. Special Requirements For the selected applicant, a criminal record check and background investigation is required. Proof of education (diplomas; transcripts) and Virginia Registered Nurse license. Must be able and willing to respond to public health emergencies; must be able and willing to work outside normal business hours as needed. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check, driving record check, National Sex Offender Registry check, U.S. DHHS IG Exclusion report and GSA search, employment reference check, proof of education, professional licensure verification, and E-Verify.
