24-hour coverage of definitive care in the emergency department
Team leader in the emergency department shift ensuring KPIs are met e.g. triage to consultation time
Clinical assessment and management of all ED patients
Supervises bed management of the ED e.g. down/upgrading of cases, and transfer in and out of the department
Lead resuscitation cases in code blue
Leads and management of disaster code
Gives online directives to EMS on shift
May be assigned partial administrative roles such as writing policies, and teaching nurses
Enhancement of the patient journey in the emergency department
Advocate for ED patient health
Attends monthly intradepartmental meetings.
Supports nursing staff during the shift to enhancing patient care.
Meticulous documentation of patient MR and insurance documents.
