Job Description

SynopsisAs a Manager Flight Safety Investigations, you are responsible for the effective management of flight safety issues and investigations, to include hazard identification and causal analysis. Whilst primarily responsible for flight safety investigations, the role may be tasked with overseeing the management of wider corporate safety issues and investigations, as required by senior corporate safety management. The Manager Flight Safety Investigations reports directly to the Senior Manager Safety Investigations.Accountabilities

  • Conduct and/or review flight safety investigations to ensure the root causes and contributing factors of each safety event are identified, with safety recommendations issued (where applicable).
  • Ensure internal flight safety investigations meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide maximum support to accident investigation authorities in relation to State investigations, as required.
  • Ensure the effective analysis and management of safety events identified by flight data monitoring and other analytical tools.
  • Ensure escalation to the relevant stakeholders of any operational risks or adverse trends identified during the course of internal flight safety investigations and/or external flight safety event monitoring.
  • Participate in regular safety review meetings with relevant departments in order to address safety risks that have been identified through the course of flight safety investigations or flight data monitoring analysis.
  • Communicate information relating to identified flight safety issues to the authority, corporate safety management and employees, in order to enhance the continued development the relevant safety sub-cultures at all organisational levels.
  • Ensure that relevant flight safety data and flight safety issues of significance are presented at the Safety Review Board, Post Holder Meetings and Safety Action Groups.
  • Ensure the contribution of accurate flight safety data to the safety management system database.
  • Develop and foster critical analytical skills among a team of safety investigators (as directed), ensuring that the root causes and contributing factors of each safety event are identified and the associated risks addressed.
  • Conduct additional duties and responsibilities as reasonably required e.g. Safety Duty Manager.
  • Conduct and/or review other safety investigations as tasked by senior corporate safety management.
Education & Experience
  • At least 10 years total working experience with at least 7 years in a safety-related role
  • Bachelors Degree (or higher) in a field related to safety or aviation, or alternatively, hold/have held an ICAO ATPL pilot license
  • Extensive operational experience in safety, flight operations or training management preferred
