Classroom Assistant-UAE Nationals (AY 2022-23) - West Yas Academy - (220000CU)DescriptionAldar Academies is currently seeking a Classroom Assistant (UAE national) at West Yas Academy on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi commencing September 2022.This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Aldar family of schools and to help shape the future of Abu Dhabi?s leading school group.West Yas Academy opened in September 2016 providing high quality education to the Emirate. The children are taught the Massachusetts Common Core Curriculum ? tailored to be meaningful to children attending the school, alongside the local curriculum of Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies. Facilities at the school are excellent and include a large astro-turf field, two swimming pools, well stocked library, a large multi-purpose sports hall, an auditorium and outdoor play areas.We provide a warm, friendly and supportive environment where students enjoy learning and achieving in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.In a short period of time the school has achieved outstanding levels of progress and attainment, supported by rigorous tracking of assessment data. We have highly dedicated and talented staff, mainly from the USA/UK, who work in partnership with parents to ensure success for all.The successful candidates will be closely aligned with our core values and ethos and possess a genuine understanding and appreciation of the values of the region.Job Purpose:Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the Class Teachers/Grade Leaders/SLT.Main Duties:

  • Provide support for individual pupils / groups of pupils inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in a range of activities during the school day and to provide for their social, emotional, and physical well-being.? Be pro-active in matters relating to health and safety.? Assist in the implementation of individual education programmes for individual pupils / groups of pupils and help monitor their progress.? Support pupils with additional support needs e.g. emotional and behavioural difficulties and help to develop their social skills.? Assist class teachers with maintaining pupil records, attendance etc.? Prepare and present displays of pupils? work.? Support class teachers in photocopying, laminating, scanning and other tasks in order to support teaching.? Support the aims of the school; comply with the requirements of health and safety, other relevant legislation, and school policies.? Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.? Attend team and staff meetings as required.? Prepare materials and resources as required to facilitate effective learning.? To help promote independent learning and build pupils? motivation and self-esteem.? Work with other professional?s e.g. speech therapists, occupational therapists etc. as necessary.? Giving group instruction as prescribed by the teacher/providing individual instruction.? Demonstrating various instructional activities to aid in learning.? Monitoring work assigned by teacher ? checking and correcting pupils? work while in progress.? Assisting class teacher in monitoring and keeping pupils on task.? Praising and reinforcing achievements of pupils/reporting pupil progress to teacher.? Reorganising study materials at the end of the day.? Supervising pupils in the classrooms and other locations within the school.? Disciplining misbehaviour in line with the whole school policy.
  • Undertake other duties from time to time as the principal / SLT require
Specific Duties:
  • Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality ? respecting that the Head of Inclusion, Home room and subject teachers, Grade leaders, SLT etc. are responsible for formal communications with parents.
  • Academic assistance
  • Giving individual instruction as prescribed by the teacher / providing group instruction where appropriate
  • Demonstrating various instructional activities
  • Monitoring work assigned by the teacher ? checking and correcting individual students work in line with school policy, while in progress.
  • Keeping individual pupil and peers on task
  • Praising and reinforcing the achievements of pupils/reporting pupil progress to the teacher
  • Prepare materials for the individual as needed, to scaffold their classroom learning.
  • Supervising individual pupil/s in the classroom, specialist lessons and other locations
  • Participating in development of behaviour policy / promoting pupils self-esteem and discipline misbehaviour in line with whole school policy
  • Attend ECA/trips and visits.
  • Perform all other duties as requested by direct and dotted line reporting managers/ supervisors in a timely manner
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Secondary School certificate.
Minimum Experience:
  • Minimum of one years experience in a School.
Job Specific Knowledge & Skills:
  • Fluent English communication skills, written and oral in order to deliver clear, proactive and effective two-way communication.
  • Flexibility, personal initiative, and skills in prioritisation of tasks, enthusiastic, motivated, resilient and patient
  • Ability to work flexibly as a member of a team
  • IT skills would be desirable
  • Shows positivity when faced with change, embracing it fully
  • Ability to create a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to analyse information in a systematic manner to make informed decisions.
  • Acts in a socially responsible manner
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding
  • A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check.
