Human Resources Benefits Assistant | |Position DetailsPosition Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Position Title Human Resources Benefits Assistant Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Both ME Campuses Description The Human Resources (HR) and Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance teams at the University of New England provide a variety of support systems and development opportunities helping to retain a talented workforce working to foster a productive environment. The HR Benefits Assistant is a key member of the team serving as the primary point of contact for all external and internal visitors and callers. The University?s Human Resources Benefits Assistant enables the effective delivery of benefit services to employees, with primary responsibility for coordinating initiatives involving enrollment, communication of benefit programs, educating employees on medical leave options, and assisting with the workers? compensation process as appropriate. The Benefits Assistant is responsible for administering day-to-day operations of all benefit plans and providing excellent customer service. The successful candidate must demonstrate analytical capabilities and strong interpersonal, communications and customer service skills. This position works under general supervision of the HR Benefits & Disability Manager. The Human Resources department is part of the Finance and Administration (FA) division at the University. FA provides the operational support to the University, its units including but not limited to the Business Office, Student Financial Services, Campus Services, and Information Technology. The interface of these departments is key to the smooth operations at the University supporting its mission to ?prepare students to thrive in a rapidly-changing world, and, in doing so, to improve the health of people, communities and our planet.? Responsibilities * Assists with the onboarding and offboarding, ensuring appropriate forms are completed and enrollment information is accurately submitted with the appropriate insurance vendors.* Performs routine quality checks of benefits-related data.* Runs routine benefits-related reports to ensure information accuracy and completion of required notifications as well as reports for management as needed.* Assists employees with general benefits/leave/workers? comp related questions via walk-ins, phone calls, and general HR email box, providing them with applicable resources.* Keeps management advised of potential problem areas and recommends/implements solutions as appropriate, such as benefits/claim concerns brought up by employees.* Assists with the coordination of the annual benefits open enrollment.* Prepares and sets up meetings and webinars designed to educate employees to understand company benefits, other related incentive programs and wellness. Assists with the distribution of required employee notices.* Answers high level benefits, leave, and workers? comp questions and provides information to UNE employees. * Coordinates the initial workers? compensation claim reporting with third-party administrator. * Helps to schedule and promote various webinars designed to support employees? overall wellness.* Act as backup to front desk for the office when needed.* Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associates degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other appropriate discipline, plus 0-2 experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. * Knowledge of employee benefits and applicable law helpful.* Familiarity with a variety of human resource management functions.* Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.* Ability to analyze data and identify discrepancies.* Excellent communication skills both oral and written is required.* Substantial training/experience in working with excel and databases. * Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of individuals and applicants in an educational institution, frequently regarding sensitive personnel matters, and to work effectively in a team environment is required. * Must be able to maintain a high level of customer service and confidentiality.* Ability to respond to a broad spectrum of questions regarding University policies, procedures, benefits, etc.* Ability to manage time and prioritize task completion is required. Ability to meet deadlines with quality results often in situations of high urgency.
