Teaching Associate (English Language), School of Nursing and MidwiferyLocation: Karachi, Pakistan.Introduction: The Aga Khan University is a private, international university committed to international standards of excellence in teaching, research and service. It is also committed to providing the highest standards in nursing education programmes, in line with the Universitys vision and values.Job Role / Responsibilities:You are required to:

  • design, deliver and develop credit bearing courses in English for Academic Purposes for undergraduate and graduate students at the SONAM
  • develop and conduct assessments as required for credit bearing and other assessed courses; monitor and provide feedbacks on progress made by students in improving their English language skills
  • provide special consultations and remedial classes for the students who are in need
  • conduct enrichment programmes
  • provide support to graduate students in thesis writing via individual tutorials
  • make effective use of Moodle and other online technologies to deliver online courses and support face-to-face courses
  • provide assistance in developing online and paper-based self-access materials to support student learning outside the classroom
  • participate in AKU-SONAM activities such as faculty meetings on needs basis
  • engage in relevant professional development activities.
Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:You should have:
  • a Master?s degree in English Language or Applied Linguistics from an HEC recognized university/institution along with a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or equivalent
  • at least three years of relevant experience
  • high level of competence in English language (equivalent to C1 and above in the Common European Framework of Reference)
  • effective communication skills in English for academic purposes (academic writing, presentations, discussions etc.)
  • high level of knowledge and understanding of English language systems (morphology, phonology, syntax etc.)
  • up to date knowledge of TESOL methodologies and practice, especially for adult learning in academic contexts
  • high level of competence as a TEFL classroom practitioner
  • ability to create a positive learning atmosphere and develop good rapport with students
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • proficiency in MS Office and other related IT applications.
