Senior Technologist / Technologist (part time position JPMC)DepartmentCommunity Health SciencesIntroductionThe Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems. It comprises of five major operational units: Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental Health, and Non-communicable Diseases & Mental Health.A research study ?SARS-CoV-2 in Pregnancy? is being led and conducted by the at AKU main campus Karachi, in collaboration with Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, (JPMC) Karachi; to better understand how SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy impacts outcomes in women and their neonates during pregnancy and post-partum period. The clinical outcomes of enrolled women and their newborns will be followed up to 6 weeks after childbirth.These positions are for Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, (JPMC) Karachi. Candidates are required to mention the place of position applied for.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for:

  • ensuring smooth execution of the research project by coordinating with faculty, research and administrative staff
  • logging of patients? information recruited in the study
  • bench work in serology & molecular biology diagnostics
  • running molecular procedures and ELISA assays through the workflow
  • conducting experiments, devising instrumentation and techniques to record and collect test results
  • collecting data as well as maintaining and logging sample information
  • correlating data compiled in research and interpreting the results
  • Performing tests, devising instrumentation and techniques to record and collect test results as per study protocol.
  • maintaining research records
  • identifying and ordering consumables required for research project
  • supervising junior staff in carrying out their task in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining research records of all lab related data.
  • Any other task assigned by the Principal Investigator / Supervisor.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences. A Masters? degree would bepreferred
  • at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • knowledge of laboratory testing procedures
  • good written and verbal communication skills
  • flexibility of working in shifts
  • hands on experience of running molecular procedures and ELISA assays
