Senior Research Assistant, HEC project, Biological and Biomedical SciencesEntityMedical CollegeLocationKarachi, PakistanIntroductionThe Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences strives to achieve excellence in both teaching and research. The development and expansion of educational and thematic research programmes in innovative and relevant basic and applied research will take AKU to the next level on the international scene while benefitting specific health care needs of Pakistan.The Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences invites applications for Sr Research Assistant position to work on the Higher Education Commission sponsored project Ref No. 20-16914/NRPU/R&D/HEC/2021 2021). This is a contractual position for a period of two years.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for:

  • providing assistance to the Principal Investigator in planning, managing and conducting research project by determining theoretical aspects of problem and selecting method of approach
  • recruitment of study subjects; collecting clinical samples from AKUH and other healthcare facilities.
  • procuringand managingstudy consumables and chemicals
  • conducting experiments, devising instrumentation and techniques to record and collect test results
  • collecting, tabulating, analysingand interpretatingdata for results
  • conducting thorough literature search; preparing write up of results, manuscripts of paper, presentation and research proposals
  • maintaining detailed records pertaining to the project
  • assisting and facilitatingall team members including MS/MPhil students particularly in the bench work during the entire project period.
RequirementsYou should have :
  • an MPhil/PhD degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences from an HEC recognized or foreign University
  • at least oneyears of relevant work hands-on experience
  • basic research skills, preferably DNA and RNA extraction from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) biopsies blocks and blood.
  • experience of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gel electrophoresis and molecular studies e.g. gene mutation analysis and gene sequencing
  • ability to participate in the intellectual input of assigned research project
  • excellent organizational skills, and interpersonal and communication skills
