Are you ready to join a dynamic global team seeking to show regional and global leadership in research and the translation of knowledge through implementation science, to formulate practical applications in community, clinical, and policymaking settings?The Aga Khan University (AKU)?s Brain & Mind Institute (BMI) is seeking a dynamic Senior Manager, Operations, Partnerships and Projects, to join our growing pool of talented experts. Working with a team with hubs in Kenya (for East Africa) and Pakistan (for South Asia) and other locations globally, this position offers a career-elevating opportunity for an aspiring individual. You will preferentially reside in Karachi, Pakistan and oversee BMI?s operations for the South Asian geography, including but not limited to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Working with a wide array of internal and external collaborators and stakeholders, you will play a leading role to design and deliver administrative leadership for initiatives of the Pakistan-based BMI office, lead partnerships and projects, undertake financial oversight of local budgets, aid in recruitment and retention of local personnel, as well as management of all local resources.About the Brain & Mind Institute (BMI)The BMI seeks to build capacity in the domains of mental health and neuroscience. In collaboration with partners, the Institute is advancing research leadership capacity and support service delivery across East Africa and South Asia, and other regions served by the AKU. The Institute supports a hub for scholarship exchange and action on mental health issues, as well as educational, clinical, and community-based programs. BMI?s research focuses on the context of today?s youth in Africa and South Asia, while our programmatic offerings address mental health related and brain health issues, including stigma and resiliency. A significant area of interest is the implementation of science-based programing in hospital and community settings that translate new discoveries into prevention and treatment programs.The Senior Manager will be responsible to provide general and strategic administrative, financial, logistic and human resources support to the BMI?s core pillars of activity, namely research, education, innovation/implementation and partnerships.Responsibilities

  • Administrative oversight and day to day running of the BMI Pakistan-based office to ensure flawless operations.
  • Play an integral role in ensuring the success of BMI through effective organization, prioritization, and a hands-on approach
  • Manage relationships, contracts compliance, and interface matters with BMI funders, stakeholders, and supporters.
  • Undertake development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Institute?s operations plan to meet its strategic goals and interests
  • Work with BMI?s leadership to improve operational systems, processes, and policies to support management reporting, information flow and management, administrative processes, and organizational planning
  • Collaborate with BMI?s leadership and teams to develop and implement improvements to organizational planning, policies, and operational systems
  • In liaison with Human Resource department, lead BMI?s staff management portfolio and provide high level strategic advice to the Director.
  • Promote financial sustainability and budget compliance
  • Serve as a ?change agent? to lead new initiatives as requested
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Bachelor?s or Master?s degree in Finance or Business Administration from a reputable University
  • Master?s or Ph.D. level training in mental health or neuroscience-related discipline(s) would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated successful experience (5 -7 years) in operational management of a not-for-profit organization or institution of higher learning/research, with relevant tertiary qualifications and/or knowledge
Competencies:
  • Strong leadership capability - to build and maintain trusted relationships with key recruits, clients, partners, and stakeholders
  • Well-developed problem solving, analytical and conceptual skillsIn-depth knowledge of strategic planning, and financial, operations and project management
  • Sound knowledge of human resource and financial management and development
  • Knowledge of research and grants landscape
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, with fluency in written and spoken English. Fluency in Urdu would be an asset
  • Resilience and ability to cope with work pressure and stringent deadlines
