Job Description

IntroductionFounded in 1983, the Aga Khan University (AKU) has 13 teaching sites in 6 countries and 3 continents, allestablishedwith the intention of bringing international standards of excellence to the developing world in the domains of teaching, research, and service. AKU?s mission is topositively impactthequalityof life in developing countries by providingaccessto health services and education. Its services are geared towards the empowerment ofunderprivileged communities by encouraging local talent towards academic excellence and social change.The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has nine community-based field sites across Pakistan (including five in Karachi) and focuses on research for the betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that caters to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.The consortium of Multiomics for Mothers and Infants (MOMI) directly addresses adverse pregnancy outcomes (APO) and its related critical issues by predicting new genetic and biological markers for preterm birth, preeclampsia, stillbirth and IUGR to enable the disease burden by suggesting treatments. Our on-going collaborations include those with Edinburgh University in Scotland, and with Stanford University, Cincinnati Children?s Hospital Medical Center, Iowa University and University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) in the United States. These collaborations will play a major role in identifying sample?s biomarkers for assessment of gestational age and preterm birth ? a major challenge in the Pakistani population.This is a short-term contractual position.ResponsibilitiesYou will be expected to provide overall administrative support in the department activities. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • work as a senior member of the data management and development team to meet project deadlines
  • assist/lead in the development of data collection & monitoring tool
  • monitor / supervise Data entry of collected forms from various sources such as paper documents, electronic entry systems, and handheld device
  • write programs to select, retrieve, manipulate, edit, and analyse data
  • learning of new tools and applying them to provide good solutions to meet project requirements
  • develop data quality monitoring programs using statistical packages or SQL
  • organize discussions and meetings with project implementation and field staff for any clarifications/queries
  • keep close liaison with project supervisors, principal investigators and departmental head
  • must be able to suggest and implement new ideas within the team that would benefit all.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a Bachelor?s degree in Statistics / Computer Science / MIS or any other relevant subject
  • at least three years of relevant experiencepreferably in the field of Research /MIS
  • the knowledge ofApp development, data cleanup, statistical analysis, and dashboard creation
  • excellent Computer programming and databases knowledge;
  • analytical approach to the research data;
  • excellent command of STATA/R/SPSS and Other Statistical Packages
  • the knowledge of RedCap, ODK, Power BI, and other dashboard creation/analytical tools will be a plus
  • sufficient knowledge of applied statistics
  • strong management / supervision skills;
  • good communication skill(both written and verbal)
  • proficiency in the use of MS Office
  • excellent interpersonal skills, particularly communication and people management skills
  • ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently
  • resilience and ability to work under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
