Job Description

IntroductionThe Aga Khan University?s Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) was established in the year 2020 to serve as a University-wide entity for providing a unique platform for facilitating strategic engagements and partnerships between AKU, University of Central Asia and the wider Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). IGHD aims to address global health and environmental challenges by creating a multi-disciplinary support system and infrastructure, whereby researchers across campuses and regions can collaborate and contribute.The IGHD works across four thematic areas, including Sustainable Development Goals (including Broad Social Determinants of Health); Gender Equity and Empowerment; Climate Change, Urban Development, and Health, and; Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to supervise project activities related to field and data management to ensure quality control, while maintaining good working relationship with staff, community and various stakeholders involved. Specific responsibilities will be to:

  • plan day to day field operations
  • conduct morning or evening meetings with field team
  • supervise day to day household and line listing data collection
  • ensuring each member of their teams is fluent with the intervention.
  • ensuring each member of the team has the necessary materials for their his or her daily activities
  • overseeing the activity in the field confirming to use the standardized approach, agreed upon during training, so that the language does not bias the responses
  • confirm that adequate time is allowed for the respondent to look for all available records
  • check that field staff do not make transcription errors when copying down dates from the cards or health facility records
  • follow up for the cases included in intervention
  • review all forms before leaving the cluster (perhaps at the end of each day) for legibility, completeness, and accuracy, and the use of photos of cards when possible
  • ensure that completed data collection forms are given to those responsible for data processing in a timely fashion
  • allocate task to team members on daily bases
  • distribute daily assignment sheet to team members
  • maintain vehicle logbooks on daily basis
  • prepare daily progress report and share progress report with zonal supervisor
  • ensure the completeness, proper filings, and archiving of the data collection activities
  • make surprise visits to household and field sites to check quality of data collected;
  • check handheld devices on daily basis, especially before the departure of teams to field for charging and application updates.
  • perform back-checking to ensure data quality (10%)
  • preparation and compilation of study progress report in collaboration with the data coordinator of the project
  • share the study findings as per the requirement
RequirementsYou should have:
  • at least a Master?s degree in Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Public Health, Healthcare Management, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology or any other relevant discipline
  • preferably with additional certification and knowledge of Good Clinical Practices
  • three to five years of experience preferably in qualitative data collection and analysis
  • experience in training teams in survey operations
  • willingness for frequent travel to remote locations for overseeing quality assurance of departmental research projects and training of local staff
  • highly organized and self-motivated
  • excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • ability to work in teams
  • integrity and strong research ethics
  • strong computer skills; competent in software use for qualitative analysis
  • experience of conducting community based surveys
