Research Coordinator, Pathology & Laboratory MedicineEntity: Medical CollegeLocation: PakistanIntroduction:The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan?s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Research Coordinator, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.This is a contractual position.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to:

  • assist senior faculty in conducting, managing, and planning research project by determining theoretical aspects of problem & selecting methods of approach.
  • conduct experiments, devise instrumentation & techniques to record & collect test results
  • perform both routine and emergency maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • maintenance of QC paperwork, decontamination logs as well as instrument maintenance logs.
  • ordering, receiving of lab related consumables and reagents for inventory maintenance, as needed.
  • serve hands-on person for performing molecular assays, including DNA isolation, RNA isolation
  • support to Next-Generation Sequencing facility (Juma Research Lab) for preparing of samples for Next generation sequencing and library preparation, Illumina MiSeq equipment
  • involve in NGS sequencing for GPS project
  • conduct bioinformatics analysis of Sequencing data
  • isolate, culture and preserve Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from Heparin for RNA extractions and Paxgene tube extractions as Micro Array preparation.
  • run and support microarrays on the Affymetrix system (JRL)
  • data collection, data management and data analysis by using PRISM and SPSS.
Requirements:
  • must possess a degree M.Phil. in Biotechnology
  • two years year of relevant experience
  • excellent interpersonal skills particularly communication skills
  • proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Word and excel
  • ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
  • ability to work effectively in teams and resilience to cope-up with work pressure
  • excellent communication and report writing skills
  • willingness to work in community setting and travel as per work requirements.
