Research Associate (Lab), Department of Paediatrics & Child HealthEntity: Aga Khan UniversityLocation: KarachiIntroduction to the Aga Khan University: The Aga Khan University is a private, international university committed to international standards of excellence in teaching, research and service. Its teaching hospital, the Aga Khan University Hospital has been accredited by the prestigious Joint Commission International for achieving the highest international healthcare standards.United World of antiviral research (UWARN) consortium is a multi-center study, including Pakistan. It is centrally operated by University of Washington (UW, Seattle). This study aims to characterize new emerging viruses, and active surveillance of Arbo viruses in UWARN centers.Job Role / Responsibilities:You will be responsible to prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses, maintain familiarity with current scientific literature and contribute to the process of a project within his / her scientific discipline, as well as investigate lab tests, create and develop new methods and technologies for project advancement in the laboratory.Specific responsibilities include to:

  • conduct research Lab tests as instructed by the supervisor and tabulate reports for various tests conducted and provide results of the tests to the concerned
  • participate regularly in laboratory meetings, departmental research meetings and internal seminars
  • update work progress in review meetings
  • prepare laboratory guidelines for writing up research proposals
  • keep a record of laboratory inventory
  • perform quality control procedures and data validation
  • maintain and safeguard equipment in the laboratory and stay abreast of the techniques and methodologies
  • design protocols for laboratory operating procedure and testing methodologies, and modify existing methods of tests to make them more efficient
  • actively participate in the optimization of new lab tests and methodologies as per project requirement
  • review all laboratory results, monitor internal and external quality control checks of laboratory results and Case Report Forms (CRFs), and take preventive and corrective actions in case of non-conformities
  • prepare weekly report on the study and final report upon completion of research project.
Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:You should have:
  • Pharm-D or Masters degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry or Chemistry
  • at least one year of related work experience in clinical diagnostics or research laboratory, preferablyskills in handing HPLC system and atomic absorption equipment
  • good knowledge of laboratory testing procedures
  • ability to effectively work in teams
  • ability to manage time and prioritize tasks efficiently
  • good interpersonal and communication skills
  • resilience and ability to cope with work pressure
  • good skills of report writing and computer applications (MS Office).
