Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Patient Sampling), Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. This is a platform trial that will evaluate multiple antiviral treatments for COVID-19. This randomised open label, controlled, group sequential adaptive platform trial, we will assess the performance of three distinct types of intervention relative to control (no treatment): identify quantitative evidence of antiviral activity in patients with COVID-19 is required to justify phase 3 clinical trials of putative antivirals.This is a grant-funded contractual position.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to:

  • ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of sample recruitment & data collection activities
  • collaborate & monitoring and troubleshooting of all recruitment
  • provide assistance in smooth implementation though teams
  • visit different households in the communities to ensure successful completion of data collection in their areas including quality control
  • liaise with admin regarding logistics for field/hospital work
  • collaborate with study sites for patient samples
  • monitor progress of research activities
  • carry out data entry work, data management and data analysis.
  • timely submission of technical and financial report
  • prepare manuscripts & abstracts for publication/presentation as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies
  • develop and maintains recordkeeping systems and procedures and responsible for technical and financial report.
  • any other duty or responsibility assigned by the Supervisor.
RequirementYou should have:
  • Masters in relevant field biological sciences
  • at least two years year of relevant experience preferably in community
  • settings/hospital or research facility
  • have excellent interpersonal skills particularly communication skills
  • proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Word and excel
  • ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
  • ability to work effectively in teams and resilience to cope-up with work pressure
  • excellent communication and report writing skills
  • willingness to work in community setting and travel as per work requirements.
