R&D Associate Principal Engineer - Packaging

Job Description

Overview The role is the first point of contact to cross functional stakeholders for all packaging development R & D activities across our Foods portfolio in Pakistan, including AOP / PSP projects. Productivity Projects, Revenue Management initiatives. The role leads the packaging development stream of all the relevant projects which includes technical leadership (deep technical understanding on subject matter with commercial acumen is a must), project management and stakeholder management . The role collaborates with stakeholders / partners / team members both inside (including Head Office, Factory sites and outside the organization ( with partners ) to develop and nurture win win partnerships . This roles creates and provides all technical packaging documentation, in accordance with SFTS , TSG requirements, and other internal processes for the respective projects Responsibilities Accountabilities : ? Manage end-to-end Packaging R&D activities for Innovation, Productivity and Brand Stewardship projects, including technical project management, project scoping, costing, technical research, concept development, benchmarking, supplier liaison, trials, stability testing, reporting, artwork sign-off, launch production support, change management ? Packaging Idea generation / information search for new concepts / products as per AOP / PSP requirements , promotional activities and revenue management initiatives ? Packaging concept closure in collaboration with Category teams as per aligned brief ? New machinery identification / development in collaboration with the Operations team ? Conduct Packaging Benchmarking and work closely with suppliers to identify new opportunities and alternatives. ? Conducting trials , validation to prove concept and scalability ? Consolidate data for various developmental trials such as Shelf life studies, Machinability trials and Transit trials and keep records. ? Interact with Marketing, factory, third party manufacturers , Product development teams for Artwork development, prototype making, planning trials and BOM creation for the smooth commercial launch ? Packaging SQA support - supplier approval and material qualification ? Packaging Regulatory Affairs and PPGA support (input into draft regulations, lobbying support, compliance, implementation of new regulations) ? Packaging Specifications: compile, manage and implement in SAP system ? Procurement support (Supply Continuity, RFQ process) ? Operational support to Manufacturing and Engineering (troubleshooting, quality improvement, line efficiency improvement, variances/concessions, input into CAPEX projects) ? Provide packaging subject matter expertise to the business. ? Compile policies, procedures and guidelines in relation to Packaging R&D ? Packaging Budget: input into AOP planning, tracking and management ? Drive the packaging sustainability strategy, identify gaps and opportunities, execute activities and report on progress. ? Ensure packaging Technical Stage Gate requirements are being met ? Priorities all packaging projects appropriately in sync with the business needs for AOP and PSP ? Manage internal and external resources to achieve product development objectives ? Partner with business team members to assure fluid work processes and outstanding execution Qualifications Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Engineering, material or packaging related field or Food / Packaging related qualification with 8-10 years in a Technical or R&D role within a manufacturing environment preferred FMCG. In depth understanding of various packaging materials , machinery , converting technologies , technical costing models , material chemistry Packaging Development Process Effective interpersonal, Influencing and communication skills with a proactive and innovative approach to problem solving and new design implementation. Demonstrated technical, analytical and project management skills, with the ability to plan and priorities workloads. Good understanding of R&D and product development disciplines, as well as regulatory requirements is desirable. Fluent in English and computer skills e.g. MS Word, MS. Excel, Power point.
