Job Description

Manager- Research (ReLAB project), Department of Community Health Sciences Entity Medical CollegeLocation Karachi, PakistanIntroduction The Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality, and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems. It comprises of five major operational sections: Epidemiology & biostatistics, Health policy & management, Population & reproductive health, Environmental health & climate change, and Non-communicable diseases & mental health.Rehabilitation is a broad term that encompasses a set of interventions to address impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions, as well as personal and environmental factors that have an impact on functioning. ReLAB-HS seeks to contribute to global efforts to strengthen rehabilitation in health systems and support the development of health systems that are inclusive of rehabilitation care including assistive technology (AT). The study aims to assess the burden of disability and rehabilitation infrastructure in the Thatta district of Pakistan.This is a grant-funded contractual position.Responsibilities You will be responsible to:

  • lead all field research activities
  • create detailed operational plans for all research activities in line with the project objectives
  • develop Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for project administrative processes and procedures to facilitate standardized practices at all field sitesrecruit and train data collectors as per projects requirement
  • lead pilot of research instruments recommends modifications accordingly
  • monitor and supervise of all research activities
  • conduct monitoring visits at the field sites to ensure that project activities are in line with the agreed-upon timelines and
  • controls are in place with compliance with university guidelines and policies
  • build a strategic relationship with national and provincial authorities about research operations and for approvals
  • ensure strong liaison with relevant stakeholders at the national and international level which includes local, federal and national government representatives; community stakeholders and international granting agencies, technical consultants
  • represent AKU team at local stakeholder meetings and forums as required.
  • develop instruments for data collection and monitoring
  • oversee data analysis and compilation of reports
  • observe, troubleshoot and report to higher management with solutions for identified problems for efficient performance
  • prepare and update project documents
  • communicate with collaborators and investigators regarding the project activities
  • ensure implementation of the project according to the timelines
  • supervise and monitor all activities related to the project including field activities
  • work closely with administrative staff to ensure discipline, sufficient supplies and optimal staff at the site on a daily basis
  • develop policies and procedures for all core processes and continual improvement of services
  • liaise with community leaders and project staff at all levels to ensure smooth running of project activities within the settings
  • prepare and compile the study progress reports.
Requirements You should have:
  • a Masters degree in a relevant field from a well-reputed local or international university
  • at least five years of related work and comparable experience at a reputable and relevant organization
  • strong research background/training and analytic skills, ideally in mixed-method approaches
  • excellent organizational, project management, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Urdu
  • strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • ability to demonstrate sound judgment in managing, challenging and sensitive situations
  • capability to manage field team, work independently and take initiative.
