Job Description

Manager, Department of Community Health Sciences˙˙Entity:˙Aga Khan University˙Location:˙Karachi, Pakistan˙IntroductionThe Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems. It comprises of five major operational sections: Epidemiology & biostatistics, Health policy & management, Population & reproductive health, Environmental health, and Non-communicable diseases & mental health.˙A research study ?SARS-CoV-2 in Pregnancy? is being led and conducted by the Department of Community Health Sciences in collaboration with department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at AKU main campus Karachi; to better understand how SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy impacts outcomes in women and their neonates during pregnancy and post-partum period. The clinical outcomes of enrolled women and their newborns will be followed up to 6 weeks after childbirth.˙The Brick-Kiln Workers? Health and Safety study aims to gain a better understanding of the health and safety brick kiln workers in Pakistan, particularly Sindh province.˙ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to:

  • support the grants acquisition for the Population & Reproductive Health Section and Environmental, Occupational Health and Climate change section (subject to assigned grants) leading through includes, but is not limited to, correspondence with the granting agencies, ensuring conformity to regulatory compliance of the agencies, tracking and delivering narrative and financial reports after liaison with the concerned entities and operations of research project˙
  • prepare the necessary grant documentation, start the grant checklist for all upcoming awards, and check in with the relevant departments to see if the grants have been approved. Before submitting research ideas or budgets to the Office of Research and Donors, review them to make sure they adhere to university and funding agency regulations and procedures
  • organise and manage legal formalities of granting agencies (and sub-contractors, if any) and ensure that those are adequately met and endorsed
  • lead planning and forecasting activities with business partners to achieve business and organization goals
  • produce financial reports related to budgets, account payables, account receivables, expenses etc.
  • make estimates of financial required for the short- and long-term financial objective of the project
  • provide insight about spending trends, cost savings initiatives, and margin opportunities
  • improve / modify existing system to reduce the turnaround time and ensure no major observation from sponsor and audit
  • coordinate in developing and implementing annual operational goals of the assigned area which are aligned to the overall departmental goals
  • ensure recovery of University?s indirect cost and advice Principal Investigator (PI) about various ways & means to increase indirect recovery
  • manage and maintain proper records of all the stakeholders of respective grant projects
  • supervise the team for the timely advance?s adjustments given to vendors for goods and supplies and also staff advances provided for various activities.
  • provide financial reports and interpret financial information to PI while recommending further courses of action.
Requirements:You should have:
  • a Masters degree in Business Administration or Finance or equivalent from an HEC recognised or reputable foreign university/institution
  • at least ten years? of relevant experience at a management level in a large organisation preferably in an educational institution of higher learning
  • knowledge of administrative support requirements
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • fluency in written and spoken English is highly preferred
  • good analytical skills
  • sound knowledge of human resources and financial management practices and procedures
  • commitment to learning, growth and self-development˙
