Its teaching hospital, the Aga Khan University Hospital is accredited by the prestigious Joint Commission International for achieving the highest international healthcare standards.Job Role / Responsibilities:The selected candidate will be a full-time researcher in the Department of Medicine and their 100% research protected time will be supported by the Fogarty Grant for NCD awarded to the Department of Medicine. It is expected that the job, through its operationalization, will build independent NCD research capacity in the University and in the parent department. The candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program offered at AKU after passing their standard admission requirements. The candidate will have flexibility to do clinical work for 10 % of time, if applicableThus, it is expected that the candidate, during their appointment ? ideate, plan, write, and execute a project focused on NCD related research project. Additionally, they will publish and present their findings. Their work will be mentored and supported by the Principal Investigators of this grant and relevant PhD supervisors. Funding support is available subject to Committee presentation and appropriate national, local and international oversight.Specific responsibilities:

• complete course work and assessment required for PhD at AKU
• develop a synopsis and execute project (thesis) focused on NCD (cardiovascular diseases and Stroke) or cardiovascular disease, stroke, or their risk factors. The project will be supported by AKUPI NCD Fogarty grant, once approved by leadership committee.
• disseminate research and knowledge to wider audiences.
• produce 1 original manuscript, 1 national presentation, and 1 local / international grant submission

• participate in university, national and international research conferences and symposiums
• participate with team in project brainstorming and operationalization other than one?s own project
• It is expected that the candidate will show maturity and respect timelines and attend milestone meetings and research meetings.

• candidate with a minimum of 18 years of education including a Master?s/ MPhil or equivalent degree.
• A minimum CGPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the Semester System) in MPhil / MS /FCPS /FRCP / equivalent degree
• Experience of working at an academic institution /university in research will be an added advantage. Long term commitment to NCD research, and interest in NCD is also an added advantage
