In recognition of its high quality and patient safety, the AKUH is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) as an Academic Medical Centre and its Clinical Laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for fast and accurate testing.ResponsibilitiesYou will be expected to manage central sterile services of the department in consultation with the supervisor which includes but not limited to planning, organizing, directing and controlling of related activities to meet the requirement of all inpatient and outpatient areas of the main hospital and secondary hospitals as well as other support services. You will be expected to:

  • manage the operational affairs related to central sterile services of the department, including to provide re-usable surgical instruments to users, manage inventory and review annual costing of the surgical supplies
  • develop, implement, review and updates the policies and procedures regarding the central sterile supplies and disinfection services
  • prepare annual operational and capital budget in terms of financials and monitor performance against the budgeted targets
  • participate in meetings related to infection control and quality control aspects of patient care
  • prepare and finalize expansion plan and submit it to for time, space, material and manpower requirements in consultation with the supervisor
  • conduct Quality Improvement Review Committee meetings to review goals and objectives, processes, customer complaints, quality and financial results
  • prepare and monitor the training programme as training coordinator and impart training to staff related to revision of relevant standards, proper charging of CSSD inventory and other relevant aspects.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a Bachelors degree, preferably a professional certificate/diploma in central sterile services
  • at least five years of related experience of which minimum three years of experience at management level , preferably in large tertiary care hospitals of good repute and dealing with multiple specialties
  • excellent interpersonal skills, particularly communication skills
  • ability to effectively supervise activities related to central sterile and disinfectant services
  • proficiency in the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office package
  • ability to effectively work in teams as well as independently and handle work pressure.
