Business: Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB)Open positions: 1Role Title: Vice President, Underwriting ASPGlobal Career Band: 4Location (Country / City): HyderabadThe Opportunity: Role Purpose:Global Fraud and Credit Control Services is a first line of defense control function in WPB, with the core purpose of supporting the entire customer fraud & credit journeys and creating sustainable outcomes for the Customer and the Bank. It has 4 core sub-functions: WPB Decision Systems, Underwriting & Credit Bureau Management, Collections, Fraud Operations and Fraud Management.Underwriting Services (UWS) in each country is responsible for the execution of credit risk-related application processing in WPB, specifically processes for assessment and judgmental approval of all Retail Banking lending product applications.The Global UWS Team is responsible for the streamlining and oversight of Underwriting Operations, with a view to optimizing key customer outcomes ? quick Turn Around Time (TAT), minimal documentation, paperless and seamless journeys - within the constraints of each market?s financial infrastructure. Equally, a key goal is to improve processing efficiency and costs, driven by higher Straight-through-Processing (STP) rates, while ensuring compliance with all established risk policies and regulations.Within the Global UWS team, a sub-team is focused on supporting the ASP markets specifically, led by the ASP Head of UWS and Credit Bureau Management. This role reports to the ASP Head of UWS & CBM, and has the following primary responsibilities:

  1. Oversight and ownership of RTB activities and governance for ASP Originations, covering both Secured & Unsecured portfolio
The role holder will lead all Run the Bank activities for the underwriting function within CCS for the Region, including developing global standards, sharing best practices, providing oversight of operational control functions, development of underwriting skills for staff and assisting in the execution of agreed Origination strategies
  1. Drive change, optimization and digital transformation initiatives for the secured portfolio in ASP
The role holder will lead all streamlining / change activities related to Secured originations in ASP to support delivery of target business outcomes, including improved TAT, increased efficiency, and better cost management. The role holder will interact with GCB 2-3 stakeholders to gain sponsorship and support for the secured originations business strategy and is expected to have hands on participation at programme and project level to drive outcomes. The role holder is also expected to engage with a wide range of business and technical issues around Underwriting Services in Asia, interacting with leaders and SMEs across various functions such as Risk, Sales, CVM, Banking Ops, etc. across all levels of the organization, while ensuring they are effective in navigating and driving the right outcomes for the business and the customers.

Customers / StakeholdersThe role holder will help translate Underwriting requirements and strategy into executable actions and standards to ensure the delivery of a high quality, professional services to all internal and external customers and stakeholders.Lead and direct subject matter experts in the development of global Underwriting standards in the area of operations, operational risk, transformation and process efficiency, all directed to serve our customers better. The position will play an important role in ensuring effect stakeholder engagement and communication.Support resolution of critical operational challenges and issues from markets where ASP & Global stakeholders? support and engagement are required.Service requirements are understood, agreed, managed and delivered in accordance with Group standards and policy.Achievement of key project milestones within agreed time and cost. The incumbent will work with markets to support and ensure Underwriting staff members are fully trained and capable of executing on all requirements outlined in the policy and procedures. Operational Effectiveness & ControlThe incumbent will lead subject matter experts to:
  • Support the regions in, maintaining of HSBC?s internal control standards, observing Group compliance policy, awareness of Operational risk & minimizing the likelihood of reoccurrence.
  • Support, observance of HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal and external auditors and/or regulators.
  • Support awareness of compliance requirements and implementation of policies. Help maintain awareness of Operational risks including identification, assessment, mitigation and loss analysis, reporting in accordance with group FIM?s.
  • Support compliance and operational risk controls implemented, including BRCM activities and adhere to Group Standards and policies. Assist in management of quality assurance and BRCM process to ensure consistent execution of controls and key risk indicator (KRI) reporting within own team/area.
  • Support the region in a robust FLOD infrastructure in place across the function and help provide strong engagement with 2LOD (Risk Steward) and business (Risk Owner).
  • Support the effective and proactive management of all internal and external audit and/or review findings at the global, regional and country levels. Facilitate proper oversight of MSII?s and remediation activities within own area.

Role ContextThe role holder is required to have extensive knowledge of end-to-end Originations and previous hands-on experience in managing an Underwriting Operation or Credit Risk experience; have strong leadership and relationship management skills and able to act as a subject matter expert across the risk and operations spectrum of Underwriting. The position will interact extensively with Group and Regional Credit/Fraud Risk, Underwriting, Compliance and Product teams in markets.
