Chief Engineer (in UAE to relocate to Kuwait)

Job Description

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of vessel machinery and equipment as well as the inspection and maintenance of Lifesaving Appliances, and Fire Fighting and pollution prevention equipment and for Hull, Deck, Space maintenance and the operation of deck machinery.Policies & ProcessesImplement the Functions policies and follow the set processes to achieve the desired objectives.Engineering Activities

• Maintaining and operating all machinery and equipment.
• Monitoring the condition of all machinery and equipment.
• Supervise Engine department crewmembers and ensuring that they abide to all company standards and policies.
• Comply and update the Plan Maintenance System.
• Control and manage the inventory of the engine stores, spare parts, fuels, and lubricants.
• Train and familiarize all engine room staff to the best practice operations and supervise their actions accordingly.
• Supervise and approve all necessary repairs (including 3rd party, i.e. contractors and dry-docking).
• Report casualties, near misses, defects, improvement opportunities.
• Ensure that all Engine Department documentation and records are properly maintained.
• Have proper knowledge and comply with the Company?s Safety Management System.
• Commit to the highest standards of safety and environmental protection.
• Inspect and maintain lifesaving and fire-fighting appliances to ensure that they are always compliant with the highest standards needed for safe operation of all vessels.
• Plan and supervise all maintenance work outside of the machinery spaces.
• Inspect and maintain the proper functionality of the safety and alarm systems.
• Comply with environmental (pollution prevention) protection standards.
• Familiarize the crewmembers with all emergency equipment and train them on how to properly use them.
• Test all emergency equipment and make sure that their functionality is up to the standards required.
• Operate and maintain electrical equipment.
• Ensure that the main propulsion unit, auxiliary, boilers, generators, and all other equipment safety devices are operational and tested regularly and the results properly recorded.
• Secure stowage of spare gear and Engine Room chemicals.

• Monitor the proper purchasing process of any equipment / spare parts that may be needed to ensure the adequate continuation of work.
• Coordinate with the concerned stakeholders in providing spare parts and other material needed to perform the engineering duties after obtaining the required approvals.
• Perform ad-hoc and other duties related to the job as assigned by the Direct Manager.

• Supervise subordinates attendance and leaves to ensure complying with Joan Al Kuwait attendance policy, as well as the availability of proper replacement during subordinates leaves.

• Prepare reports covering the main activities required by the job role or other customized reports as requested by the Direct Manager.
