Job Description

Project Manager / Irrigation SpecialistApply nowMott MacDonald are providing services as a TA consultant on a major donor funded project to rehabilitate/modernise irrigation in the Nile Delta, Egypt. Mott MacDonald is providing services as TA Consultant, including tender preparation and construction supervision of Design & Build contracts for two 25m3/s capacity pumping stations and 7,200 hectares of modern irrigation systems including drip and sprinkler systems.To deliver these services, Mott MacDonald is seeking candidates for a Project Manager / Irrigation Specialist to lead the our TA Team through the construction supervision phase of the project. The role will be based predominantly in Cairo, with intermittent field inputs related to the proposed civil works for pumping stations and modern irrigation systems.The specific tasks to be performed by the Project Manager / Irrigation Specialist are as follows:

  • Overall project management of TA Team, comprising around 8 international and 20 national staff;
  • Liaison with Client, funding agency and consultants of other Project components;
  • Promoting integration with other components of the Program;
  • Coordinating expert input into technical subject matter related activities (design and procurement of drainage pumping stations, modern irrigation systems, canal and drain rehabilitation works, SCADA system for water quality monitoring);
  • Coordinating TA supervision team during construction activities (construction of drainage pumping stations and modern irrigation systems);
  • Assist the client in establishing operating procedures in line with donor requirements for project procedures and management system;
  • Assist the client to discharge the conditions precedent or conditions for effectiveness set out in the Financial Documents;
  • Assist the client to devise a system to track compliance with all covenants, warranties and representations, and train the Client on how to keep records and present the status of covenants and warranties;
  • Progress reporting, including training the Client on how to prepare such reports.
Candidate Specification
  • Minimum B.Sc. degree, preferably MSc in civil engineering, or similar;
  • Extensive professional experience as project manager or team leader in similar projects in the water sector;
  • Specific experience in supervising/managing works under FIDIC conditions of contract;
  • Experience in successful implementation of at least two similar assignments;
  • Specific experience in the MENA region is considered a distinct advantage.
