Job Description

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE:Responsible for the operation of the drill floor including draw works, mud circulating systems, rotary system, BOP equipment and supervision ofthe Drilling crew.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:ù The Driller is empowered and encouraged (he has the right and the responsibility) to ?Stop the Job? if he feels that he ÿhas not received adequate specific instructions pertaining to the job task, does not know how to carry out a task or if he ÿfeels it is unsafe to proceed for any reason. He must report to the ARS / RS.ÿù The Driller is individually responsible and accountable for complying with AD QHSE Policies, Requirements, Procedures, ÿStandard Work Instructions and Check Lists when conducting AD Business and Operations.ÿù Lead by example, enforce and encourage his crew, in the STOP process and implementation of the QHSE Policies andÿ Procedures.ÿù The Driller is encouraged to suggest improvements to existing standards, processes, and systems. AAR in the JSA. ù Inform ARS / RS of any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations.ÿù Read, understand and comment on the Well Program, Game plan and SIDs. ÿù Plan and organize work for the drill crew.ÿù Plays an active part in Weekly Safety Meetings, Daily Pre-Tour safety meeting and Tool Box meetings. ù Responsible for the SSE (Short Service Employee) Program, coaching and mentoring of the new people in his crew. ù Must be familiar with the SAP system for Preventive Maintenance jobs. Plan ahead equipment maintenance that couldÿÿbe limited due to operational constraints. Liaise with Tool pusher for inspections on equipment if needed. ù Responsible for the DROPS Procedure to be carried out in his area of responsibility. DROPS inspections and ÿfrequencies must meet the minimum requirements. ÿù DROPS inspection schedule is weekly, monthly, after any jarring operation, over pull, severe weather conditions, ÿhigh vibration operation or whenever deemed required. Report deficiencies immediately to ARS / RS. ù Travelling assemblies shall be visually inspected daily to ensure there are no loose or defective items. ù Derrick Temporary Equipment Register shall be completed for all temporary equipment to ensure that all items ÿare accounted for and have been removed from the derrick after the completion of any task.ÿù A Derrick Log book shall be maintained, with the name, date, position of personnel climbing in the mast and to track allÿ tools used for tasks performed in the Derrick. Only AD approved ?Working at Height? tools to be used. ù Ensures that drilling operations are conducted in accordance with AD QHSE Policies and Procedures, Operational ÿProcedures and meet with contractual obligations. This should be reflected in the Hazard Analysis and Risk Control ÿand in Prevention and Mitigation Measures.ÿù The Driller must fill out the IADC report for his shift.ù Driller should complete the ?Drillers Daily Checklist? and submit the CL to RS after the end of each tour. ÿù The Driller must check all Well Control equipment for proper setting at the beginning of each tour. ù Monitor the well condition at all times (i.e. depth, mud weight, weight on bit.) Recognize, interpret and respond to downÿ hole conditions.ÿù Perform drilling-related operations such as directional drilling, working stuck pipe, running and cementing casing strings,ÿ coring, fishing, and assisting in wireline logging, well testing, and other special operations.ÿù The Driller must keep a complete record of all tools and tubulars run in the hole showing made-up lengths, tool joints, fish necks, O.D. and I.D.s.ÿù The Driller shall be aware of the TVD and MD at all times and maintain an appropriate measurement tally. ÿù ?Man In Charge? of the DP tally is Driller and he will be held accountable if any tally mistakes occur. ù It is the Driller?s responsibility to ensure that standpipe manifold and all valves are lined up properly before ÿpumping through any line. Choke manifold must be lined up at the beginning of shift as mentioned in the SIDs. ù Operate the drilling and hoisting equipment. The duty station in both these Operations is the drillers console whichÿ includes brakes, throttles, clutches and various gauges (for conventional rigs).ÿù Operate the drilling and hoisting equipment. The duty station in both these Operations is the drillers console whichÿ includes setting up the Human Machine Interface (HMI) which includes operating screens, screen navigation, and equipment set ups on the screen (for cyber operated rigs).ÿù All flow and pit level instrumentation shall be in working order and the alarms set to maximum sensitivity practical ÿ(should be checked each tour). No alarms shall be disabled or ignored. Pit or flow level changes will be investigated prior ÿto continuing.ÿù The Driller will take and record slow circulating pump rates (SCR) for all mud pumps at Every Tour, after a mud ÿweight change, after a bit nozzle or BHA change, after each 500? of hole drilled, after a drilling or completion fluid ÿtype change and Whenever mud properties significantly change.ÿù Drillers must constantly monitor the Drilling Parameters, record them and respond accordingly. ù The Driller has the full authority and responsibility to shut in the well if a kick is indicated or suspected. ù When tripping in or out of the borehole the well bore must be kept full at all times by circulating using a trip tank andÿ accurate trip fill-up records shall be maintained.ÿù When Drilling, the Driller must Flow Check for a minimum of 15 minutes if the following occurs; Drilling breaks, Decrease ÿin Mud weight, Decrease in Pump Pressure, Increase in Pump Strokes, Increase in Chlorides.ÿù The Driller will check the ?Crown-O-Matic? and electronic BCS and verify settings as soon as practically possible ÿafter the start of a new shift and thereafter whenever the drilling line is slipped or cut, handling a long bottom ÿhole assembly, or any other time the toggle is moved. A confirmation of the correct setting of this device shall be ÿentered in the IADC report at the end of each tour.ÿù The hole must be covered using a proper steel plate cover with rotary drive bushing pins whenever there is no drill ÿstring, casing, or wireline in the hole.ÿù The Driller must ensure Drawwork control system is secure when left unattended. ÿù Driller must know the BOP space out of the rams at all times and stick up height at the rotary.ÿ ù The Driller is to ensure that there are spare BOP rubbers, valve parts, and new ring gaskets available all the time. ù Record Ton Miles, MP Hours and Rotating Hours of Tubular, wash pipe and TDS saver sub for inspection or change out. ù Listing of tubulars, inspection and running hour records shall be maintained in the rig SAP / PMS file for all AD drillingÿ tubulars.ÿù The driller must not Overpull more than 50% of the BHA weight until the RS is on the rig floor unless it is determined thatÿfailure to do so will result in stuck pipe or unless specific SID has been given by the RS in the case of highly deviated wells.Policies, Systems, Processes & Proceduresÿù Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and ÿconsistent manner.ÿù Contribute to cost-efficient usage of all applicable resources to reduce unnecessary expense.Health, Safety, & Environment (HSE)ÿù Adhere to all relevant QHSE procedures, instructions, and controls so that AD provides a safe, secure and ÿenvironmentally responsible service to customers, the public and its own people.
