Procurement manager - Chemical Division

Job Description

As the Purchasing Manager for chemicals, you will play a crucial role in managing the procurement process of approximately USD 22M value of chemicals from suppliers.Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of raw materials, chemicals, and polymers required for our manufacturing and trading divisions. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing inventory levels, and overseeing trade finance and shipping activities related to chemical procurement.The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the chemicals market, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to optimize procurement processes to support business objectives.Responsibilities:Business Development? Finding new markets in Nigeria.? Develop agency agreements.? Introduce new verticals: paint, oil & gas..etc? Developing new suppliers and increasing the turnover.Procurement Strategy:? Develop and implement an effective procurement strategy for chemicals (Detergent, Solvents, Polymers, Paints & Coatings, Cosmetics, Food additives and Sulphur), in line with the companys objectives and budget.? Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and select the most suitable ones.? Stay updated with industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements related to the chemicals market. Supplier Relationship Management:? Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering collaboration and ensuring the availability of high-quality chemicals.? Negotiate contracts, pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to achieve favorable terms and cost savings.? Monitor supplier performance, conduct regular supplier valuations and implement corrective actions when necessary. Procurement Process Cost Optimization:? Streamline the procurement process by implementing the best practices and utilizing procurement tools and technologies.Supplier Relationship Management:? Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, fostering collaboration and ensuring the availability of high-quality chemicals.? Negotiate contracts, pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to achieve favorable terms and cost savings.? Monitor supplier performance, conduct regular supplier evaluations, and implement corrective actions when necessary. Procurement Process Optimization:? Streamline the procurement process by implementing best practices and utilizing procurement tools and technologies.? Continuously monitor and improve the efficiency of procurement operations, identifying opportunities for cost savings and process enhancements.? Develop and maintain procurement policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards. Trade Finance and Shipping:? Collaborate with the finance team to manage trade finance activities, including letters of credit, bank guarantees, and payment terms negotiations? Coordinate with shipping and logistics providers to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of chemicals, while optimizing shipping costs.? Manage import/export documentation and ensure compliance with international trade regulations. Inventory Management:? Collaborate with trading and manufacturing teams to forecast demand, determine optimal inventory levels, and ensure the availability of chemicals. Regular travel to Nigeria is required.? Implement inventory control measures to minimize stockouts, reduce carrying costs, and optimize inventory turnover.? Identify market trends to advise divisions on quantity and purchase time to ensure seamless product movement. Attending international exhibitions, Trade fairs, Chemical conferences..etc. Risk Management:? Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain, such as supply disruptions, quality issues, or regulatory compliance challenges.? Implement contingency plans to manage unexpected events that may impact the procurement and supply of chemicals.? Coordinate with the shipping team to understand shipping trends and disruptions to manage landed costs and timely arrival of goods.
