Job Description

The Student Life and Recruitment Officer reports to the Director, Student and Enrollment Services. The SLRO plans and executes all student life activities, including operational management of the corresponding budget; performs student recruitment in Arabic high schools and at education fairs; and supports the entrance and continuing scholarships and bursaries award program.Under the direction of the Director of Student and Enrollment Services, this position performs tasks and provides guidance related to the planning, organizing and supervising of the delivery of extra-curricular programs at UCQ. Responsible for coordinating student clubs and events within UCQ that support enrollment management by enhancing the overall student experience and success of students.This position requires cultural sensitivity, patience when working with students of different cultures, a student-centered approach, and a high standard of accuracy. The nature of the work is driven by deadlines, interruptions and shifting priorities; it is imperative that this position can work well in a team-based environment and with minimal direct supervision.The Student Life Recruitment and Officer must stay current and up-to-date on regulations of the University of Calgary related to the admission of students and on the requirements of nursing programs. The ability to relate well to and work with students to plan events and activities for students is necessary. Flexibility and a strong commitment to student success are essential, as is an ability to communicate in Arabic and English.Primary Purpose of the Position:The Student Life and Recruitment Officer has a diverse and critical range of responsibilities related to all aspects of prospective and continuing students at UCQ. This includes recruitment, enrollment conversion and retention of students through the entire student life cycle.Qualifications/Expertise Required:

  • Undergraduate degree with three years of related experience in recruitment, admissions, marketing, communications, or awards
  • Fluent with strong spoken and written skills in Arabic and English.
  • Experience with doing public presentations using appropriate technology.
  • Technical skills and strong experience using computer-based software such as the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic email/calendar systems, experience with Internet. Ability to learn and use specialized computer programs such as the PeopleSoft System.
  • Ability to be decisive while simultaneously working with a level of ambiguity.
  • Ability to plan, organize and lead extra-curricular student events and activities, including experience with student athletics, physical wellness, and recreation programming.
  • Ability to be creative in planning and implementing student life activities.
  • Ability to clearly explain admission requirements to students.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
  • Ability to work in a confidential setting and demonstrate good judgment in dealing with sensitive situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required in dealing with a range of questions and visitors, including tact, friendliness, and ability to deal with confidential matters in a professional manner.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the maturity to work in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to work productively in a framework of operations that fully respects the laws, culture and religion of Qatar.
  • Willingness to obtain drivers license in Qatar and to travel within the city for career fairs, trade shows and school visits.
