General Project description:The linguistic situation in Qatar is described in many scattered documents with no one source illustrating the situation as a whole. In many instances it is described as part of the Gulf dialects sharing some features from here and there. According to many Qatari native speakers, there is no social dialect but rather either Urban vs. Bedouin or different tribes? origin. The main goal of this research is to explore and analyze the actual dialectal situation in Qatar, investigating all mentioned above assumptions.The Qatar Linguistic Map (QLM) is a 3-year project funded by QNRF. QLM is a collaboration between Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University in Qatar, and Doha International Family Institute. The project is led by Dr. Zeinab Ibrahim from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.We are seeking to hire a research assistant to participate in creating and maintaining a corpus of Qatari dialect (speech and text). Also, this research assistant will carry out extensive data analysis and help in creating the Qatari linguistic interactive map.Qualifications Required: Masters degree in Arabic linguistics. Be a native speaker of the Qatari dialect. linguistic skills should include awareness of grammar, syntax, and morphology of Arabic. Previous relevant professional experience is a plus. You are expected to be comfortable using computers. Flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks effectively according to the project requirements.
