Role Objective:IT engineers help to meet their employers needs for computer hardware, software and networking tools. They work to develop, test, install, configure and troubleshoot computer hardware and software. As part of this process, they work to create proper documentation, diagrams and other detailed instructions to help other employees make the best use of new technologies.Detailed Role and Responsibilities:Identify and Resolve System IssuesIT Engineers are responsible for studying their employer?s current computer system, identifying areas that need improvements or overhauls and implementing these changes. They will need to be skilled in assessment techniques and have the ability to design and install any necessary upgrades to the system.Document WorkDocumenting work is a very important part of the IT Engineer?s job. They must document system configurations, updates they make to a system and any new procedures or policies created in their work. Their documentation is used by other IT staff or management to see what changes or creations have been made to their systems.Manage ProjectsIT Engineers are often called upon to act as a project manager. They often oversee IT staff and coordinate with vendors and internal users when implementing a new system. They may be required to setup meetings, present information and order supplies and equipment when working on a project.Additional Responsibilities:Install and configure computer hardware operating systems and applicationsMonitor and maintain computer systems and networkstroubleshoot system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faultsPeplace parts as required.Provide support, including procedural documentation and relevant reportsFollow diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a systemSupport the roll-out of new applicationsSet up new users accounts and profiles and deal with password issuesRespond within agreed time limits to call-outsWork continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate)Priorities and manage many open cases at one timeRapidly establish a good working relationship with customers and other professionals, such as software developersTest and evaluate new technologyConduct electrical safety checks on computer equipment.
