Job Description

Horticultural Specialists, or horticulturalists, choose and care for plants in public or private areas. They identify and treat sick plants, trees and shrubbery. The primary purpose of the Horticultural Specialist position is to provide hands-on technical expertise and instruction in applied horticultural sciences in order to improve the care and culture of the diverse plant life within the farm.??Primary job duties include:?

  • Serves as the point of contact and coordinates work between Landscape among all locations.
  • Participates in all pre-planning meetings and schedules accordingly with all field supervisors/farmers.
  • Responsible for managing field operations.
  • Coordinates the procurement and scheduled use of resources such as labor, equipment, and materials to ensure maximum use and completion of work within the budget, safety guidelines and quality standards.
  • Serves as landscape employees guide and mentor field staff and assist them in carrying out their duties.
  • Serves as the primary interface between the farm and clients.
  • Supports team in developing a project plan, quality assurance plan, and a safety plan.
  • Recommends cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and productivity
  • Acts as the Quality Assurance Liaison for Landscape Services within Grounds Management.
  • Prepares detailed monthly reports to Management of storm-water devices, erosion control methods, and silt fencing.
  • Acts as a training resource for the department based on knowledge and experience in different aspects of landscape installation.
  • Prepares and oversees all aspects of landscape watering.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plant, turf, erosion and storm-water issues.
