Job Description

The Infrastructure division is currently seeking to appoint an Design Manager to join our Infrastructure team. The role is to be based in Qatar.We have an extensive portfolio of International projects, helping our clients address asset creation, process improvement and plant optimisation needs. Our locally focused teams incorporate expert electrical, ICA, process, mechanical and civil engineers who provide a multidisciplinary approach to solving our clients? problems in creating, managing, building and investing in water and wastewater infrastructure.Detailed role requirements:

  • BSc, Eng BA or Equivalent with a process engineering bias; chartered Member/Fellow of a recognised professional institution
  • 10-18 years of relevant experience, preferably within Middle East
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate specialised activity, discipline or team of moderate size and complexity
  • Leading in the formulation of advanced technical concepts and providing specialist Works in support of project requirements
  • Independently performing highly complex professional assignments demanding contributions calling for the application of specialised principles
  • Computer-literate and able to work effectively work with the basic Microsoft suite of programmes as a minimum
  • Extensive experience within the water and/or wastewater engineering sector
  • Ability to provide a customer-focussed service with a clear understanding of the water sector regulatory framework and strategic business planning
  • Understanding of water and wastewater treatment technologies; an interest in developing and/or exploiting new and emerging technologies and techniques
  • Ability to complete assignments on time, within budget and to a high technical standard
  • A well-developed understanding of the design process
  • A well-developed external profile and reputation; a desire and willingness to raise the profile of oneself and the Company
  • Willingness to contribute to and develop our technical knowledge networks
Responsibilities
  • Ensure design governance, processes, management of interfaces, review/coordination and sign off.
  • Review project scope requirements and ensure the project team is aware and working towards the required deliverables.
  • Establish and maintain project goals and success criteria that meet both Atkins and Client needs.
  • Technical co-ordination between Atkins team ? across all disciplines, specialists and subconsultants (with support from all disciplines as needed), and Client?s team.
  • Setting up a design freeze schedule.
  • Lead design meetings and provide continual input to optimize design and minimize unnecessary work.
  • Responsible for maintaining the master list of deliverables
  • Ensure that checking and reviewing process is established for the project, communicated to the delivery team and implemented.
  • Set out / agree design standards and parameters
  • Monitor quality of the work and take action with relevant Design Centre or Practice if not compliant.
  • Prepare agenda, chair and produce minutes for technical meetings, which includes kick off meeting.
  • Ensure that the individuals who are responsible for check, review and approval of deliverables are clearly identified and communicated and that the levels of independence required in the Technical Assurance Plan are achieved.
  • Ensure that technical risk is managed. Also, setup up process for managing Safe by Design and Sustainability.
  • Ensuring that relevant previous lessons learned is obtained and utilised by the project team, and new lessons learned is captured on the project and shared across the business.
