Associate Clinical AudiologistBasic FunctionPerforms comprehensive audiologic evaluations on neonates, infants, children and adults, consults with physicians engaged in diagnosis and treatment of hearing/ear pathology, and recommends or provides appropriate rehabilitative measures for permanently hearing-impaired patients. ScopeResponsible for complete audiologic assessment/rehabilitation of all patients referred (inpatient, outpatient, adult and pediatric) to the JHAH Audiology Clinic. Performs any and all diagnostic procedures including basic audiometry (pure tone, speech, dynamic range testing), comprehensive impedance testing (tympanometry, acoustic reflex/decay testing, etc.), site of lesion determination (for retrocochlear pathology), testing for functional (non-organic) hearing loss, auditory brainstem response (evoked potential) testing, and OAE testing. The Clinical Audiologist I is knowledgeable about all aspects and performs all tasks associated with the diagnosis of auditory disorders, aural rehabilitation (including but not limited to consultation/fitting of hearing aids or assistive listening devices, and counseling on the social and psychological issues of hearing loss and amplification). Responsible for documenting the audiological status of patients, monitoring and recording progress of those requiring rehabilitation. Responsible for the care, calibration check and preventive maintenance of clinic equipment (audiometers and accompanying accessories, impedance bridges, computer-assisted diagnostic equipment such as ABR and OAE units, video otoscope, lab equipment). Performs all activities pertaining to and facilitating the general operation of the clinic. Reports to/consults with Unit Supervisor. Performs supervisory tasks in the absence of the Unit Supervisor as required. Principal ContactsDaily contact with Unit Supervisor and co-workers to facilitate/coordinate patient care and general clinic operations. Daily contact with ENT physicians to discuss referrals, audiological results, and management of hearing-impaired patients. Cooperates with industrial audiology in the audiological assessment and follow-up of employees. Weekly contact with nursing staff providing conscious sedation medication for infants and children undergoing brainstem evoked potential testing. Frequent (several times a week) with the physicians and staff of the NICU when the audiologist is involved in the Neonatal hearing Screening Program. Occasional contact with other referral sources, such as Pediatrics, Oncology, Speech/Language Therapy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, to discuss patient-related issues, and to maximize the effectiveness of all professionals involved. Infrequent (perhaps monthly) contacts may include the Executive Health Program physician, Newborn Nursery staff/physicians, and GP, Occupational Medicine, and MDF physicians. Principal Duties
