Specialist Nephrology - (220001H1)DescriptionJob Summary:The Nephrologist will be responsible to provide specialized services to patients for the diagnosis and management of kidney diseases. Work is performed to meet established medical, ethical and statutory regulations. The HOD is informed and advise sort about the unusual problems encountered and the actions to be taken.Duties & Responsibilities:

• To perform his duties in the Nephrology Outpatient Clinic evaluating patients on a daily basis.
• To perform professional duties of nephrologist in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by the Credentialing Committee and approved by the Medical Director. Orders laboratory, radiological examinations, determines diagnosis, prescribes medications, advice nursing and dietary care as necessary and applies such preventive measures as required.
• To provide consultation for referral patients from other specialties viz. surgery, oncology, medicine, ICU pertaining to acute kidney injury, dyselectrolytemia chronic kidney disease, post renal transplant patients, glomerular disease, and pregnancy related renal diseases and toxin ingestions.
• To provide consultation/referral services to the in-patient services in his area of expertise.
• To provide consultant/care to the patients of renal transplant, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home dialysis, pre dialysis chronic kidney disease, geriatric nephrology, renal manifestations of systemic diseases, dyselectrolytemia and acute kidney injury.
• To work with the patients throughout the entire process starting from consultation to treatment plan.
• Provides after working hours on-call emergency coverage for nephrology emergencies and hemodialysis unit.
• To go for rounds and take care of patients admitted in the inpatient ward. Any hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis patient.
• Provides supervision and education/training to the dialysis staff: nurses and technicians.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Head of the Department (e.g. Committee membership).
• Participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service (e.g. monthly mortality and morbidity conference, peer review, audit and chart review).
• Supports Continuous Quality Improvement. Develops and promotes appropriate standards of care including departmental KPI?s (Key performance indicators).
• Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy.
• Participates and contributes in scheduled in-service training programs, CMEs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians? conference or other committees as requested.
• Responsible for implementing and following standard policies and procedures as required by HAAD, EHSMS, JCI and ISO.
• Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, with associates and with Management.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and regarding administrative matters of a confidential nature.
• Participates and contributes in developing departmental guidelines, protocols, manuals, pathways in line with international standards and statutory requirements.
• Patients and family education regarding medical conditions and treatment methods.
• Completing the patient file in all aspects as required by the standard of care in timely manner. No patient file is left incomplete in any aspect.
• Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
• Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.
• Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements
• Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
• Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports
• Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
• Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems

QualificationsQualification, Licensure, Education, Experience, Special Skills:

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Nephrology or Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or its equivalent).
• At least five (5) years of practice as a nephrologist with two (2) or more years as a licensed specialist.
• Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
• Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
• Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients and families.
