Job Description

The Academic Head coordinates with the Vice-Principal (VP), Head of Department (HOD) and Teachers for all academic-related mattersPolicy implementation -Staff academic policies-Student policies-School discipline policies-School safety and health policies-School curricular and extracurricular programsAdmissions -Assess and plan for student intake each year-Instruct concerned departments regarding admission proceduresBooks and Curriculum-Initiate and finalize book selection-Guide in curriculum construction-Provide teaching material and related resources-Establish an accountability system -Provide guidelines for supervisionFaculties-Guide and oversee coordinators? work-Set high standards in all academic areas for PE, Library, Art and other departments.-Use evaluations for assessment of standards for students-Implement appraisals for academic staff according to the Performance Development Policy.-Design and modify teaching programs according to need-Identify and work to resolve deficiencies in teaching and learning areas-Work with Counselor regularly to track and improve students behaviour and performanceGoal-setting and Results-Clearly set and communicate objectives and goals for school results-Use final results analysis as a basis for developing new programsCurricular Assessment and Co-curricular activities-Develop meaningful school calendar -Design and oversee curricular and assessment (internal and external) activities and programs for the year.Communication-Oversee prompt issue of academic circulars-Use assemblies for communicating important issues and announcements-Meet with parents and students regularly on student performance, discipline issues, fee arrears and other matters-Schedule regular meetings and agree on the agenda with all departments and upper management as appropriate.-Use and provide information on the school?s intranet websiteAssessment and Evaluation-Plan and oversee the needs of internal and external exams.-Oversee the quality of questions papers set.FinanceThe Academic Head coordinates with the Finance Manager and Purchase Supervisor for all finance-related matters-Participate in developing the annual budget-Ensuring an adequate supply of teaching materials for teachers-Developing optimum resources for student learning-Plan and ensure printing of school material Student AffairsThe Academic Head coordinates with the relevant academic staff and Student Affairs Supervisor for all student-related matters.-Admissions process-Blue/Brown Registers for Ministry of Education-Fee issues-Transfer Certificates, transcripts and other requested documentsHuman ResourcesThe Academic Head coordinates with the HR Administrator for all HR related matters-Recruitment and termination-Staff appraisals as per Performance Development Policy-Leaves and other approvals for academic staff-Staff development programs and training (Accountable for ensuring 25 hours of training delivered to all staff)-Recommend operating policy and procedural improvements-Work on ministry matters with Ministry Affairs CoordinatorITThe Academic Head coordinates with the relevant academic staff and the IT Supervisor for all IT related matters.-Requisitions and approvals of IT equipment for the academic dept-Supplying timely information for updates to the internal and external websites-Evaluate educational software and electronic teaching aids-Assist in planning for both new and replacement equipment and software purchasesOperationsThe Academic Head coordinates with the relevant academic or other staff and the Operations Supervisor for all transport, facilities and support staff matters-Provide information on requirements of furniture for staff rooms, classrooms, multipurpose hall, library, play equipment etc.-Assist in the allocation of helpers and maids in academic areas-Provide information on room requirement
