JOB SUMMARY:2.1The Incumbent is a General Surgeon whoprovides consulting, operative [major as well as minor/ elective as well asemergency] and attending services to patients of any age group, includingdiagnosis, pre- and post-operative care of all operative cases and proceduresin the field of general and trauma surgery.3. DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:3.1Is responsible for attending ambulatoryand hospitalized surgical patients including cases of all degrees ofcomplexity, which are within the area of competence and expertise;additionally, providing surgical care of a more specialized nature.3.2Surgeons work to meet establishedmedical, ethical and legal rules in the field of general surgery and practicingstate-of-the-art.3.3The applicable surgical unit providesday-to-day work including management and peer review, monitoring and evaluationof the quality and appropriateness of patient care provided by all physicianswithin the clinical privileges, approved by the Credentials and PrivilegesCommittee.3.4The HOD is informed of unusual problemsor actions taken regarding unusual cases.3.5Performs all management functions andduties of a general surgeon and provides expert medical care for ambulatory andhospitalized patients, including pre- and post-operative cases and suchsurgical procedures as are within incumbents competence.3.6Performs professional duties atout-patients. Surgical care is to be rendered to patients as assigned.3.7Provides consultation services tophysicians and other surgeons and specialists.3.8Assumes after-hours responsibilities forthe care of assigned surgical cases and makes daily rounds for thosehospitalized.3.9Orders diagnostic laboratory studies andX-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy.3.10Makes recommendations to the HODregarding medical referrals.3.11Adheres to the By-laws and Rules andRegulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is inkeeping with the established standards of the JCI.3.12
