Database Administration Senior Manager

Job Description

The Database Administration Senior Manager role will manage a team of Database Administrators, ensuring the security and integrity of the databases, and collaborating with other IT professionals to optimize database functionality and to deliver projects as per the agreed scope. They will be responsible for providing technical support around Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring that the applications in charge enable the users and organization to use them efficiently. They will also act as the point of contact for all Microsoft SQL Server support and enhancements requests.The job scope also includes: Project Management and Business Alignment

• Collaborate closely with concerned departments to dive into understand the exact needs.
• Take ownership of business alignment and prioritize relevant projects.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure projects meet business needs and contribute to overall organizational success.
• Forecast future database requirements based on business needs.
• Commit to a delivery roadmap with clear milestones and timelines.
• Ensure accountability for the outcomes and results of assigned projects, tasks, and solution performance.
• Pay attention to the achievements and lessons learned, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Stay updated with the latest technologies and best practices in SQL Server administration.
• Analyze costs associated with DB Systems, identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Vendor Management

• Identify potential vendors based on organizational needs and evaluate vendor technical capabilities.
• Coordinate the onboarding process for new vendors.
• Monitor and manage contract compliance throughout the vendor relationship.

Technical Skills

• Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server software and related products.
• Design and implement database structures, tables, indexes, and views.
• Ensure database security and perform regular security audits.
• Monitor database performance and optimize queries for efficiency.
• Provide day-to-day support and carry out incidents to meet the prescribed SLA.
• Implement and maintain database backups, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions.
• Identify and resolve database performance issues, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies.
• Optimize SQL queries and store procedures for improved performance.
• Conduct performance testing and provide recommendations for improvements.
• Diagnose and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.
• Provide technical support to developers, analysts, and end-users.
• Collaborate with application developers to optimize database schema and queries.
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans.
• Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to minimize data loss in case of failure.
• Test and validate backups to guarantee recoverability.
• Monitor database growth and plan for additional storage or resources as needed.
• Follow-up DB capacity planning.
• Maintain documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Generate reports on database status, performance, and issues for management.

Security and Compliance:

• Develop and enforce security policies and procedures for database access and usage to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Stay updated with the latest security vulnerabilities and apply patches and updates, as necessary.

Team Management:

• Foster effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead, train, motivate and support platform team members.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to develop a high-performing team.
• Confidently hold difficult conversations and address poor performance.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

To be considered for the role, you will need to have:

• Bachelors degree in business administration, computer science or related field is the minimum requirements for this position
• Certified for Microsoft DB Administration
• Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in a similar technical role
• Performing the operational processes MS SQL Server patching /Upgrade/ Migrate/ High Availability (HA)/ Disaster Recovery (DR), Failover (FO)
• Strong attention to detail and outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
• Leadership and team Management Skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• DB Service on Azure cloud platform or any Cloud Vendor
• Strong experience and excellent administration skills in maintaining Microsoft SQL server administration

It would be good to have:

• Experience in NOSQL Database like Cosmo DB/ Opensource Database like POSTGRESQL
• Knowledge about the RDBMS/No SQL itself, e.g.
