Consultant Emergency Medicine - (220001IN)DescriptionJob Summary:Serves as Chief of the Emergency Department. Supervises, coordinates and monitors the health care provided in the department to promote efficient and effective delivery of quality health care. Provides direction and control over all the department?s activities. Administers resources of the department in a manner which emphasizes cost effectiveness; that is, achieving the most from the investment of the hospital and personnel, facilities, equipment and materials.Duties & Responsibilities:

• To perform the professional duties of a Specialist in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by the credential committee.
• Performs all administrative functions at the Department level as established by the Medical Management.
• Provides care to patients in the Emergency Department when on clinical duty as a physician or otherwise as needed.
• Supports Continuous Quality Improvement. Develops and promotes appropriate standards of care.
• Develops and implements work assignments, on-call assignments, and vacation schedules for Department staff.
• Supervises and monitors the delivery of health care by department staff. Provides guidance regarding patient care when indicated. Takes remedial action when appropriate.
• Develops and implements effective Peer Review. Evaluates staff and provides annual and on-going feedback as appropriate.
• Works closely with other concerned committees in developing policies and procedures to promote quality health care for Emergency patients.
• Supervises or participates in supervision of intensive care areas when assigned.
• Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, with associates and with Management.
• Evidences leadership skills in developing in others the willingness and desire to work toward common objectives.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and regarding administrative matters of a confidential nature.
• Produces written communications, assessments, proposals and administrative documents that are timely and of high quality. Work product is of the quantity required to effectively accomplish duties as head of the department.
• Evidences dependability in carrying out the commitments and obligations of the position.
• Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
• Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Administrator or Medical Director.
• Comply with all OSH (Occupational safety and health) and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements
• Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
• Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports
• Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
• Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
• Ensure as far as reasonably practicable that any workplaces they manage or control are safe and without risks to health, safety or the environment.
• Ensure implementation of applicable HAAD, NMCRH OSHMS and infection control policies and standards
• Ensure adequate budget and resources for FMS/OSH/PCI management.
• Designating a Safety facilitator who will be responsible for coordinating OSH activities within the department.
• Regularly discuss OSH issues or matters in departmental/ management meetings
• Ensure provision of OSH information, training and Supervision
• Implement and monitor effectiveness of risk management program

QualificationsQualification, Licensure, Education, Experience, Special Skills:

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Emergency (or its equivalent).
• At least three (3) years of clinical experience in the Emergency Department with two (2) or more years as an ER administrator.
• Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
• Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
• ACLS or ATLS trained.
• Current licensure in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
